Tractor
Kioti NX4510 HST, Kubota G1800, Kubota L3830
I Sent the tractor to the dealer today for a faulty fuel relay and first service. While I was there I started looking at the tractors on the lot just for the new tractor smell as mine was starting to wear off. My dealer came out and we started talking and I told him my only regret was that I should have bought the 55 hp. So like a good salesman he said well trade yours in I have someone with less land looking for a NX4510. I started to ponder and so just wondering I asked what he could give me for my 2015 NX4510. He played with the calculator and said with my third function and rear remotes he could give me $23,500 (Paid $25,700). I started looking at financing and thinking about pulling the trigger (Dangerous). Tonight at dinner I have to pitch this to the CFO.

So a couple of questions:

1) I currently have the HST and I am thinking about the shuttle. I like the HST for the convenience but their are things I don't like, like the delay from FWD to REV and the power loss which is inherent with HST. I do about 70% field work 30% loader work. Has anyone used the shuttle for the NX my dealer said he thinks the NX shuttle doesn't require you to use the clutch which would be the big downfall. As opposed to the DX where you need to clutch from FWD to REV.

2) What is the difference between wet disc and dry disc as far as clutch is concerned. My neighbor asked me and I didn't know. Is there a disadvantage to one or the other.

3) I am contemplating R1's this time instead of the R4's, as stated above I do a lot of field work and we get this black mud that seems to stick in the R4's. I have never had R1's so I would like some input on the disadvantages.

This probably will be my last tractor for a while as the wife wont agree to a third I'm going to guess. This one is an easy sell because the payment is only $81 a month.

Oh and I'm sure someone will ask... the price for the NX5510 Shuttle with remotes and third function $29,350($1000-3rd Fun/$750-RR), with HST- $30,450

Thanks,
BC

The shuttle on the NX does require using the clutch. No hydraulic shuttle available unfortunately.

I have a nx5510 shuttle, and yes you have to clutch it to change the shuttle. The RX series has a power shuttle option, but not the NX. It's a dry clutch setup, basically like a manual trans in a car or pickup truck , a wet clutch setup runs in oil and runs cooler and will last longer. Are these both cab or open station models?

Open station, that's disappointing I don't think I will go that way then.

Have a look at the RX with power shuttle when you go back to the dealer, you may be surprised at what little cost difference is between the two series. I really looked hard at a 60 hp RX cab but the NX was just enough bigger than my old kubota and the RX was that again that's why I stayed with it. Would have liked to gone with the RX power shuttle but would had to upgrade pretty much all my equipment and trailer to haul it on. As for the tires, if I were doing that much field work and wasn't worried about tracking up a yard or grass area, I'd go with R1s for sure.

R1's definitely leave their mark wherever you go with them.

I looked at the RX initially but like you it is to big for my needs. The frame size of the NX is perfect for my garden rows and hauling with my current equipment. I don't think upsizing would serve me well. I do drive on the yard on rare occasions but not as a regular thing. I looked at the options for R1's as they can get a couple different Titan R1's from the distribution center, I found a set that looks kind of like a hybrid with a deeper lug but nowhere near what they show on the website those R1's look like boat props.

I think the tires your talking about are R2s, or commonly called Rice and Canes, around here. The R1s that were on mine when it was at the lot were pretty nice but I wanted to stay with the R4s like I had on my previous tractor. The R1s would have worked better for a bit narrower rows in the fields and garden. These are a pic before they switched over the R4s.

My last tractor was a 33hp New Holland with a hydro and R-4s. I now have a 40hp New Holland shuttle with R-1s. The R-1s have scads more traction and I like them, but they sure tear up a yard. I liked the hydro, and I like the shuttle. For pure loader work, the shuttle is fine, and the hydro is better. For ground engaging work, I like the shuttle better. Kubota's GST (Glide Shift Transmission) is really cool.

That's just my 2 cents.

I like those seems like they would perform well and give me the traction I need. I don't think they will tear up the pasture much but then again I'll be disking it over anyways so it really doesn't matter.

Do you have the shuttle? how do you like it if so?

When disking with the HST it just always seems like it needs a lower gear IDK if that is just a power issue that would be fixed by the larger engine or would be solved with the shuttle. It took me a year to buy this tractor and I'm going to have to make a decision on the next by the time mine is repaired.
