Old dads helping can be a blessing or a curse, for sure! Just before he died, my dad's water heater went out. Late at night hurrying to finish, tight space, and he was doing his best to "help". I finally got frustrated with him being in the way and slowing me up. Had to ask him to PLEASE just stay out of the way. Hurt his feelings. He died a few weeks later and I never got a chance to apologize.

The input shaft seal and housing gasket came in last Friday. I picked up the parts yesterday and put them in tonight. I am pretty sure the seal was the culprit of my slow oil leak out of the clutch drain. Getting the old seal out required some doing. Just before I put everything back in place, I noticed that the shaft where the seal rides had some black "gunk" on it. This confirmed my suspicion of the cause of the leak. Part of the black seal had been "glued" to the shaft.

New seal is definitely a different design. Synthetic grease installed per the manual. Fingers crossed.

Rear main is in at Messicks, just waiting for the gasket for the housing and we'll be mating the tractor and transmission together!

Something like the above to prelube the engine? I believe it would check the rear main before installing the engine. Somewhat anyway.
I built it to prelube the boat engine my sons rebuilt, plan is to put the 5 qts into the tank, run the line to the galley the oil psi sending unit is in and pressurize tank with regulated air PSI to 30.

We planned on leaving the fuel off so we could crank the engine to make sure the oil gets primed. I did hear someone say that the oil pump will not self prime from being empty. Could that be true? I can't find anything to back up that statement in the manual.

It will eventually prime. Helps if the gears have oil on them, better yet, packed with white engine builders lithium grease. Fill the oil filter with oil. I have also used the oil pressure tanks as shown above. Check that engine oil pan is not over filled if using tank. Philip.

I should be able to take the return line from the turbo off to see if I have oil making it up there.

Have you fired her off yet?

A dry oil pump most likely will NOT prime unless it is below the oil level.

Best, quickest way is to remove the oil filter and use a shop vacuum on the adapter while someone cranks the engine over a few times with the fuel disabled.

It will make a bit of a mess but ensures a fast prime to the pump.

That's good info.
