Rancho.. livin south of I-10 wondering what this warm up issue is....

Nothing to 'duke out' IMO. I stated what the manual said exactly, Nothing more. I just happened to have the M9 manual out on the desk, was looking up something.

people get strange ideas and then post them on a public forum and it's supposed to be gospel... It isn't.

I'll go by the owners manual over opinion, anyday.

After re-reading the operator's manuals for the 1640 & 435 . I am going to have to eat some crow. Above 0F JD recommends 2 minutes of medium speed idle before use.
Somewhere I read in a JD manual somewhere about no excess idling to warmup and to operate the tractor a gear lower without labouring until temperatures had risen to near normal.
We must differentiate however those operators who use glow plugs,intake manifold heaters or ether to hammer a stone cold diesel to life. vs those of use who plug in a block heater and start a pre-warmed engine.

No, I'm not. I use Chevron Synthetic THF.
