You know Ford dropped the 3.5L Ecoboost engine into a 3/4 and 1 ton Transit vans.

Here is my ecoboost chugging down the road pulling 10,000 pounds. You tell me.

Still says private?

( 5th wheel has a 12,700 GVW and there is no way I would want a 1/2 ton in front of it. Uphill and level is nothing, it's a windy steep downhill that will take you to church.)

I think handrifles main point is the safety factor
- when descending a long high % grade,
and not feeling like years were taken off your life when the bottom of the hill is reached.

The diesel powered hd trucks that have an exhaust brake , add another safety layer if the trailer brakes fail or aren't up to snuf, and also the average 3/4 and 1 tons come with 10 ply E rated tires, whereas there are many half tons with 10 k in tow descending the same hills with p rated passenger car tires...

Give me the 3/4 ton- or better yet 1 ton diesel towing 10 k- when hill descents are involved.

We have a 3.5 Ecoboost Transit (regular wheelbase, medium roof). Most I've towed is 5,300 lbs in the hills up north. Works great, hardly ever downshifts out of 6th.

If undercoating was the answer, One of the companies would use said undercoating and claim no rust. I don't hear anything on this. Rust is an industry wide problem.

In the last 24 hours I've seen four or five diesel F-150 prototypes driving around not far from Ford headquarters. I know they were diesels because they had the blue DEF filler cap and green diesel fuel caps plainly visible. It seemed they might have been making a loop not far from the airport...went to pick up my wife at 8:30PM and saw two in a couple of minutes, picked her up, and saw a third a few minutes later. Going through the same area this morning I saw two more. I suspect they might have been doing something like fuel mileage calculations.

there's been a lot of speculation and spy photos of these trucks. (mostly with the weird camoflage paint job). If these are regularly painted ones then its definately closer to introduction. (search for "diesel F-150" on google and you'll find the links to the stories in other media)

These had partial camo paint, but much less than what I've seen on the older spy pics. Also, they didn't have anything covering the grille/hood area. I'm going through the same area this afternoon and will keep my camera ready (have one mounted on the dash).

There is a niche market for diesel where some customers no matter what , they are willing to pay a premium price for the diesel option in a vehicle and the higher cost fuel. In a light duty application .
