Reccomends me an 8' twin spindle cutter

Sort of related to LD's search, has anyone ever seen a 6' twin spindle cutter?
Yes, it was an ancient (probably homemade) rusty contraption. Generally, the only multi-spindle 6' mowers are finish mowers.
Edit, found one: 6 foot 3 point bush hog heavy duty

I've been running a JD 709 7 footer behind a Ford 4630, tall, thick vegetation is not its strong point. It's heavy duty and destroys brush, small woody material up to 4". I just ordered a Woods MDS 96 8 foot dual spindle 3 PT mounted cutter. I'm hoping it does better in the field.

That's just what I want, but big $$$$. Let me know how you like it

I have seen a few big 8' singles.

I wouldn't be opposed to one of them if it isn't too heavy. But I think that's the problem. Weight +length would require leaving the FEL on, which is what I want to get away from. A 1500-2000# 8' twin, with it's shorter length should allow me to drop the fel with the mx5100

Have you looked at a Howse?

The 10' list a blade speed of 13.6k. The 8' is not on website but dealers around here are advertising one. I have no experience with them but I do see a few around.

Could you get by with a pull type? Just wondering. I've got a nice Brown 472 six footer. I would like to run an 8 or 10 footer. I've got an older Howse 10 footer that needs a right gearbox replaced. I just have not had time to repair it yet. That is probably what I should do but the darn thing weighs around 1800# and like you I would need to keep the FEL on to run it. I think a pull type would be a better option.

Pull type would be okay if I was only maintaining my property, or close to me.

But this is for business. I travel all over. Sometimes up to 2 hours from home. And mow sever hundred acres a year. Trailering is the reason for not considering larger, or a pull type mower.

Look to the left, under your avatar... says you still own a Kubota L3400 :)

I went from a 6 foot to a dual 8 hardee cutter, such a big difference. It only has a blade speed around 13,700 but does a nice job of finish cutting , but I keep good blades on it and don't use it for very rough cutting. It weighs 1600 and even on real steep inclines like my dam, it doesn't make the front to lite, but you can tell its on there, however I do run with the loader on but no bucket or anything. Only real complaint I have is that it windrows the cuttings a lot since the spindles counter rotate.
