Get it documented---just in case.

Sounds like yours has the same thing going on. Mine did it every time I went down the same hill, and like yours when going slowly. Can you see the shifter moving as you go down the hill until it goes into N?

I can see shifter move when I push and release forward pedal. called dealer . he wants to take it in for repair. I hate to give it up. don't have a
back up tractor, traded it in. the shifter was hard to move when new, then got easier.hope mahindra finds a fix so they don,t have to do exploratory
surgery like eddies. might send it back next week. will keep you informed. any one else have same problem?

You might tell your dealer you can live with it for a little bit unless they have a clear fix in mind and parts on the shelf. That dealer can call Eddie's dealer and see what was done and get the low down on the fix. Since Eddie's dealer supplied a new tractor, we know that this issue has been taken all the way up the MUSA food chain, and I bet they have the solution in hand.

This seems like the same basic issue we had on the 5010. But I will say out of 55 of those that we retailed, we only saw it on 2 of them. Perhaps it was latent in some others but did not manifest due to the type of usage, flat ground vs slope, etc. But once the issue was figured out and parts were on hand, the turnaround on this repair was less than a week.

We really like the 2538 and we have yet to see one of these with this problem. So for you folks that do not yet own a 2538 but are considering it, I would not steer away from this model. I would however look at this potential issue in a test drive. Some might say, that if one has the problem, shouldn't all of them? Often not, and I believe that is due to a stacking up of tolerances. I've mentioned this before, so I won't bore you all with too much detail, but if a shaft can be 12.125" +/- .004 and a bore can be 12.125 +/- .004 and you get a shaft that is 12.121 and a bore that is 12.129, everything is within specs but at the ragged edge and in opposite directions. Of course that is why things can be shimmed or otherwise adjusted and that becomes critical. This ought to be caught and shimmed in the building process so I'm not making excuses...just trying to figure out why so few have the issue.

We have found the 2538 to be a very reliable hard working machine.

My new 2538 is doing great so far, but it only has 4 hours on it. The shifter is pretty stiff but I'm sure it'll loosten up...hopefully not too much. But so far no problems.

I am another new 2538 owner with popping out of gear problem. Happened twice with 25 hours on the unit, while mowing with 6 foot finish mower. Happened once turning right going up a slight incline, then again about 20 minutes later while turning left going down a steeper grade. If I had been further down the hill I might have been sideways into a fairly deep ditch. Both times was in middle range and about 1800 rpm's. Have contacted my dealer. He called me back next day said the field rep indicated he had not heard of this being an issue (this was a week ago last Friday). He said the rep asked if I would continue using the tractor and take detailed notes if it happened again. Just on this forum alone that's about four or five with same issue. I really like the tractor but this is a troubling issue. I hope all 2538 owners with same problem will let it be known so we can see how widespread it is. Meanwhile I suppose I will go with their suggestion and put more hours on it to try and help identify the problem. The sooner the fix is in the works the better.

Not to make lite of your problems, but my 5035 pop'd out of gear once after I first got it. I had not put the range all the way into gear, and it pop'd out. Just want you to keep that in mind when it happens so you don't confuse operator error with tractor error. Not implying that that is even happening with the 2538's, but could be the cause of 'some' of the problems. Keep an open mind.... :)

Why are you mowing at such low RPMs? 540 is at 2350ish

Please put some hours on it and report back. There must be plenty that needs to be done.

Any other comments good or bad?
