Yes weld it inside prep the area and weld a few passes and then grind the weld smooth don't take to much off the weld.

I would post a picture or pictures and ask on the welding section here. Those guys are pretty smart and have done everything you need done multiple times. There are some serious pros there.

I guess I have to ask the question, why grind it smooth after welding it? On the inside of a case, its not interfering with anything, the additional metal won't hurt anything, and it may help hold it. So why grind it smooth?

OK moss since you really want to know why grind smooth here how I would do it. Take a 4 " grinder use the side to gring open up the cracks wide enough to get weld metal in maybe 2 or 3 passes then grind it to look nice not like Joe blow gorilla welder.

Isn't that cast? I'd be taking it to someone experienced welding cast and has proper stuff to heat it up and cool it down slow etc. A bubba repair will hose it up worse and possibly to the point it can't be fixed.
