Now ya tell me. All the folks in the grooving thread were swearing by it. Anybody wanna buy a grooving iron cheap?

How cheap we talkin'?

Edited to add: dickfoster, I sent you a PM. I don't get alerts from this site, maybe you don't either.

If ya got the iron you might as well try it. Results may vary. :)

That's some sweet a%%! :D :drink:

My L4400, Brother's L3240. I took several pics of them side by side for comparison. My 4400 was gear drive, 3240 was HST. I hated the 3240, totally gutless. But he enjoyed it so life was good. :)

I will. So far you're the only detractor I've heard and I don't want to run chains on my asphalt.

I'm assuming you are wanting improvement on snow??

If so, it'll require a LOT of sipes. Go look at your all-terrain tires on your truck or car. LOT of sipes. :)

Yep. You might want to read the thread on grooving R4s before you order the chains. That's what I'm doing. About a hundred bucks for the tool and little of my time could help save not only some money but my asphalt too. I'm not too sure I can even fit chains without wheel spacers. I assume you're getting chains to deal with the snow.

Snow and ice. Got 1/4 mile of driveway I will be snowblowing. Steep spots and turns. Don't want to take any chances and end up sliding off and rolling over down the hills

I wonder if tread pattern makes much difference in traction?

Here is what the tread pattern was in 1980,,, totally symmetric?

Compare those rear tires to the non-symmetric tires of 2016, 35 years later,,,

If it snows this year,,, I will let you know if there is any difference,,,

20" of snow hardly slowed down the old tires,,, so we need a big snow to notice any difference,,, :confused2:

@ CADplans I love that 584. It is a sweet tractor with the MFWD!! I love the 66, 84 & 86 series IH's, heck I love all the other series too!

Apologies for the distraction from the Original Topic.
