Broken drawbar... chances a 'pro' welder can fix it

I'm not a pro welder either! But I would grind between 30 to 37 degree bevel all the way around on both pieces. Clamp both pieces to the table, with a small gap. And weld with 1/8-inch 7018.

^^^ What shield arc said. What do you have to lose?

Heh... you guys have caught me at 'pre-welder' stage. I have been looking at purchasing a welder, having grown up with a 'red-buzzbox' stick welder of my Grandpa's. But, as of yet, I haven't made the purchase. It seems as though, although I try to 'prepare', my ability to break things always remains one step ahead of my purchases.

I'll take it to a local welder and see what he says. If I already had a machine, you'd be looking at pics of the weld by now.

I keep thinking "I can pay X for it to be done or buy the machine and pay X+ for the short term, but have the machine for the long term." But I haven't gotten around to a welder yet. I'm hoping to take some time and take a local private welding class, which is available at a local welding supply/training store. I have been planning for a couple months... story of my life.

Dadnatron I would contact Mark with Everlast, and see what kind of deal he can make you for a PowerArc 200ST. Very impressive welder!

Dadnatron everything you said. Thats the story of my life too.

Except one thing, that shouldn't be your "practice weld". Its an easy weld though, just as Shield arc's pic. That can be welded up easily and be stronger than the hole next to it.

Can you post better pics of the surface of the cracks? Not much action on the forum we need something to chew on! :D

And before you give me grief about the background...

This is an older Toyota Sequoia we use to haul dogs back and forth from KY to IN.

My wife, in her womanly logic, said "I want to get a cover for the dog cushion, that doesn't show dirt. Because it looks so bad."

My logic is "So you chose the ugliest cover you could find, to hide the dirt?!?!?"
