Rural living is great for privacy, or is it?

I forgot they existed. I remember being a kid back in the 70's and they where pretty common. The Mormons did the same thing, except they where on bicycles and the Jehovah's would walk from house to house. Now that I'm out in the country, here in TX, I don't know of any. Around here, it's the Baptists you have to watch out for!!!! :)

December 24th, 2011, and I had three "elders" knocking on my door because my nephew's then newlywed wife was a former Mormon whose family is well-heeled and well connected. Connected enough to get three young men over to speak with us on Christmas Eve. At the end of the day they were sent to give my family a message.

I'm sure all of us have checked out our places on Google Maps. Mine is about a year and a half old. Easy to tell, I just had irrigation ditches put in and the grass hadn't grown in yet. I can zoom in pretty well, but not for fine detail.

So far I haven't been visited in my new home in NC. But back in suburban Philadelphia, you bet. Like telling someone you are a Buddhist, I tell them I'm a lifelong Quaker and they look at me kind of puzzled, but know their new turf is very old Quaker turf and there were lots of us in that area, William Penn and all...so they almost immediately look for greener pastures. I just can't imagine being a proselytizer because my faith is so personal and quiet within me. Yet we all know the proselytizer style religions are the growing ones, beat the drums and they will follow.
Lemmings... but you know, maybe a few people find happiness so if these folks want to waste a ton of gasoline and shoe leather hiking all over the place, this is a free land. But No Soliciting and No Trespassing publicly displayed should get someone a ticket and fine for ignoring.
Hit them in their wallets.

But if you have no signs out, yeah in they come. And you don't know if they are for real or gypsies with one guy around back stealing your lawn mower...

I like the red sign. Maybe one next to it saying Caution: Infectious Diseases might just be the topper to get them to turn around...

Yep, I believe the newest was less than a year old when it first posted. I am clearly visible blocking wood being held by my tractor grapple. The previous edition I was walking across my yard with the weed eater. :)

The ones that get me are the meat salesmen. They are out on farms and ranches in cattle country trying to sell second rate beef. My guess is the seafood and chicken must sell as this is the wrong place to be selling beef.

I have had a few jehovah's witnesses but they usually get the hint that I am not interested pretty quick. Only other visitor I can think of was the aerial photo guy wanting me to pay $200 for a picture he took of my place. Sent him packing as well.

We need to do that again. Keep the tradition alive. There is an aerial picture of our place when my Wife's Grandparents first bought it and moved there in 1970, and another from about 15 years ago. The changes were substantial. As we are making more changes, I'm thinking an updated picture is in order. Thought about hiring one of those photogs, but then realized for that money I can buy a halfway decent drone and take all the pictures I want.

Or let it be known in 'town' that you are growing dope and the DEA will take the pics for you.;)

I can't even be assured of privacy when I have to do my buisness in the woods. Too many camouflaged game thieves sitting in trees.

I quite agree. Another offence is putting water or ice with it....

What attracted me to my home was the fact it was carved out of the inside of a block of woods, and thus I had some privacy all year round and good privacy during the leaf season when sides of property filled in nicely. I have a small hot tub on my rear porch and living by myself I'm not putting a bathing suit on. I wonder sometimes if someone is staring at me through the wood line with a sighting scope but tough, I'm going to stand out there drying off my back and if someone half a mile away is offended, well get over it.

I don't want to see my neighbors. I'm ok hearing them, within reason, folks get to make noise and run machinery, hopefully not at 3am, and I sure don't want to smell them. Having real privacy is expensive, you need a lot of acreage and usually woods to get privacy.
And sometimes the wife doesn't want to be "so far out".

they say fences make good neighbors. Probably.
I am reminded to keep my sense of humor regarding signs by the lovely old hippy song:
Signs Signs, Everywhere a Sign - YouTube
