I'm with the pessimists here.... Don't think you are going to be happy with a 6-7gpm pump.

I built a splitter several years ago using the 20gpm pump pictured above. Like SawyerRob I got along fine. Was fast and powerful. I ran it on a B2910 Kubota (30HP) tractor.

What size reservoir are you running that pump with?

Hmmm.... then I should be fine if I go with a 20gpm pump and a 11gal tank?

I can only speak from my personal experiences. I never had a problem.

I built my splitter and did a thread, but can't find it, seems threads more than 10 years old are purged??? Probably just my ignorance.....

Here's the guidance that I got with the pump as well as a pic of the finished product.

Think about your splitting needs.
Do you split in one spot or all over?
Do you want to be able to use the tractor to bring in wood and remove wood while you are splitting?

I have a 3 point splitter and in the end it's not that convenient as I split in the same spot. Between tying up the tractor and using a much bigger engine than necessary (70 hp) to run a splitter it's not ideal IMO. It splits great with over 20GPM and over 3,000 psi but If I could do it over I'd probably go with a quality electric unit with a 5 or 7.5 HP motor. Cheaper to operate and much less maintenance.

I'd go with a 20 gallon pump, you can always lower the rpm to get the gpm you want, if heat is an issue.

Nope, not purged: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/build-yourself/93245-homebuilt-pto-3pt-wood-splitter-2.html

Found it with the "Google Custom Search", at the top of the page.

The pictures show in a new tab, if you hold down the Control key and click the link.
