I use a post/tree puller mounted on my three point it pulls some pretty big stuff. I have 38 hp tractor with hydraulic top link. Most trees resist side movement but a straight up pull works very well, and the 3 point lift is much stronger than the FEL. IMG_0733.JPG

Thank you for the great reply. I'm new to this myself and advice like yours will hopefully prevent damage/accidents.

That is the ticket. I always had to get off the tractor to hook up the chain. The straight up lift with a little bit of pull moves a lot stuff.

Please post pictures of it on the three point. I would like to see how you converted from SSQA.

Not sure how stout the loader bucket is on that small of a tractor but I would try easing into the brush and brush stumps with the loader and see if it doesn't pull them right out. My loader bucket is industrial strength so it either pushes the stump out of the ground or stops the tractor.

I'm not a fan of loaded tires unless you are running tubes. Wheel weights are a better option and permanent.

Might want to put some netting or something behind your seat in case your chain or rope breaks. I always remember the time when my Dad was pulling our tractor backwards, using a chain between the 1957 Olds and the tractor. The chain broke and made a nice imprint of itself onto the hood of the car, fortunately just short of the windshield.

Adding to this caution... throwing a blanket/towel/old work jacket(something heavy) over the chain/pulling strap can "dampen" the whip-back if your pulling chain/strap happens to break.... as long as the "break" doesn't happen between the blanket and what you don't want damaged (windshield, you, bystander...)

Another alternative to remove big weeds/brush:

I bought this 3-point backhoe to take out the stumps of fallen trees each year in my orchard. Several years ago I went through the orchard and used it to pull out unwanted scrub oak and blackberry next to the orchard trunks where disking had only trimmed their tops for many years, leaving their root structure to grow and crowd the orchard trees.

One winter working in wet ground pulled out stuff like in the photo, like popping out carrots. Two more years of minor followup and I'm finally free of competing scrub oak, blackberry vines that snarl the trees making harvest painful and difficult, and poison oak.

(Glove for scale).
