2014+ Toyota Tundra 5.7.

AFM is GM's cylinder deactivation called Active Fuel Management. Still a gimmick with no real savings. But can turn in to a nightmare and consume/burn oil.

EPS is Electronic Power Steering.

Thanks for the explainations. I have a 07 double cab, long box, 5.7 engine, with 106+k miles on it. Only real issues have been brakes with sticking calipers and tires. Finally bought snows this winter and still have a few miles left in the summer tires I took off. Tire pressure sensors broke when trying to put on new rims years ago. Currently have a abs light on and 4WD light on. Seems the ABS sensor/wire is bad and needs to be replaced. However Toyota tied them into the 4WD system and until sensor issue is resolved I have no 4WD.

Dealer said he'd give me $12,500 on a trade. '18's coming with more safety crap on them. Wife says no new truck, she wants to retire sooner than later. Shucks! Jon

AFM - didn't cadillac try that 20 years ago, and gave up on it?

FYI: my 2007 Tacoma was been the most reliable vehicle I have had. I only need one hand to count the failures - all pretty minor.

I've owned three vehicles with cylinder deactivation, they have all been Chrysler products. I'll just say it works much better cars than trucks. Trucks just catch too much air to have it work well. On turned it off on my Challenger thinking it wouldn't make much difference. It was kind of an informal test but I did track fuel mileage and it made more like 2 mpg difference.

EPS? I'm afraid that is also the future, it uses slightly less power, hence better fuel mileage. My wifes car, a 300C has it, my Challenger does not. I like the steering feel on my Challenger better but I have gotten used to it on the 300C.

I do understand the fear though, I've also heard bad reviews on the items on GM products.

You could also look at the Nissan Titan and F150 with the 5.0. Neither have AFM or EPS.

My 2016 double cab is a nice truck but 6th gear doesn't get a chance to show what it can do because in hills and or a head wind I drive it in S-5 to stop all the up and down shifting.

And I look rather strange wearing a LED head lamp during daylight hours because I haven't determined any other way to see instrumentation other than silver bezel rings and silver gauge hands + the cruise indicator light is none other than ridiculous. Strangest lighting system I ever drove.

AFM can always be disabled with a tune.

I have a bare bones 2014. Standard cab, long box. 4WD, 5.7. six speed transmission. trailering package. Air-conditioning hand crank windows.
It is a lovely powerful and comfortable beast. 12,500K miles and could not be happier.

I thought the F150 had EPS? Thats how the rear trailer assiat works, no? The 5.0 is solid, but all of our Ford dealers suck. The local Toyota dealer is excellent.

It may now. Last time I shopped was 2012. I know at that time the 5.0 still had regular power steering and the Eco Boost had EPS. That probably has changed.
