Anyone have a LED dusk to dawn pole light?

I am curious about when you see LED on sale or rebates. Is the industry trying to change over , or is the government giving them our money?Maybe they want less CFL assembly lines and want to standardize on LED. I can see it being in their interest. Maybe it is simple marketing, get us to buy on sale so we buy at normal price.

I haven't noticed the cheaper ones, but people tell me they see them. I don't go through alot of bulbs, so I am not in the aisle that often. I stocked up on incandescents too. I am also armed and willing to defend them.

Could also be that the manufacturer is switching to a different design and wants to clear out the older design bulbs.

I'm sold, k0ua...Good argument.
I'm ready to go with LED's.
What can I do to replace my 300W indoor incandescent barn lights?
I would use these: LE 5W Super Bright Outdoor LED Flood Lights, 15W HPS Bulb Equivalent, Waterproof, 375lm, Daylight White, 6K, Security Lights, Floodlight - - Amazon.com
I have four of those 12' off of the cement in our shop (mounted in a 8x10 rectangle) and they light up a 20x30 area to be "shadow free"
If you are at 14' up and don't need as much light, I would try them at the locations of your current lights and see how they do.

They also make a drop in replacement bulb such as Bonlux LED Corn Bulb Mogul Screw Base E39 E4, 45W AC 85-265V Daylight 6K, Street and Area Lighting, High Bay Retrofit LED Bulb for Garden Path Garage Factory Warehouse Barn Porch Backyard - - Amazon.com but IMO having a LED fixture is better than dropping in a replacement bulb as it can dissipate heat better (if you look at the "mogul base LED" bulbs on Amazon, they have a lot more LEDs than a dedicated fixture of the same wattage. One reason for this is that the more LEDs throw off less concentrated heat and heat is the enemy of LEDs).

Can't you just buy a 100-watt equivalent LED from your Home Depot? I can.

Yes, you can. but they are not as cost effective as buying two 60 watt equivalent bulbs. And 150 watt eq, and 300 watt eq. become even more problematic and less cost effective. In other words, it doesn't cost much more to make an incandescent 150 watt bulb over a 60 watt incandescent bulb. But it costs a lot more to make a 150 watt eq. LED bulb vs. a 60 watt eq. LED bulb.

I have a couple of boxes of incandescents that were taken out, and like you I bought a case of new BR30 65 watt floods. Now they are just taking up space, and I was considering throwing them in the trash. Do you want them? I did the math, and I would make money by throwing them in the trash instead of using them.

Dirty Harry said: "A man has got to know his limitations". I say: "A man has got to know when he has made a bad decision" I made a bad decision in stocking up on New BR30 flood lamps.

I never stocked up, but I did start to get aggravated when it started getting hard to find incandescents during the CFL craze. I hated those things. They are a nightmare for electric/electronic musicians. LEDs, for the most part, seem way better. Not nearly the dirt in my electricity now, not to mention EMI. We are almost completely switched over to LEDs in our house now. The barn is next.

Some LED's are dirty too. Or to be more specific the power supplies in them are dirty from an EMI/RFI prospective. I am worried as the price continues to fall that shortcuts will be taken in manufacture and parts count. And EMI/RFI is not high on the list of features that a manufacture cares about. I have had good luck so far with all 3 generations of the Cree brand bulbs.

I've only done a first blush look here but some of these look like it could work. I'm convinced and am going to change over my big barn light and passage door light to LED as soon as the weather warms up. In the garage I'm going to change two of the 150W incandescents to 100W LED. The other two 150W stay for now. In the basement I'll put a few 100W LED's too.

For the barn, I'm going to change a couple of those 300W to LED but not sure what just yet. All this as it warms up. Good thread and smart people.

Yeah, we've been buying Cree bulbs, too. No point fussing with cheapies when LEDs have the lifespan they do. I have a home recording studio, and noisy lighting solutions are just unacceptable.
