I have enjoyed reading the mower/lawn tractor debate. Quite informative. You guys really know a lot about this subject. I know far more now than I did a few days ago.
So I spent this afternoon greasing the hubs of my old trailer and working with these ramps I picked up for it from Home Depot since the hinges broke off the drop gate earlier this winter. Can't say I like the ramps I bought but I believe I have them ready to use in a manner that will prove safe. I really would like a slightly bigger/wider trailer but I'll see how she fits my old one first. I can't believe I am this excited to be getting a lawn mower tomorrow. At one point today I pushed the old walk behind to clean up the back yard a bit. I guess this is like cleaning your house before the new maid starts. Lol. I don't want the new Deere to get the wrong impression of me😜 . This thing has me in such a giddy mood that I picked up a new washer and dryer for the wife. And a baby golden retriever for my oldest. Hopefully everyone else will be just as happy tomorrow and so forth as I ride my new toy... I mean critically important mower.

Waiting would be the worst, very nice unit you chose there.

Am I missing something? When I go to the John Deere website all the mowers, including the x380, show a John Deere engine not a Kawasaki? Is it just rebranded?

yes the X380 has a 22hp Kawasaki FS651V

I really enjoyed reading this and thanks for posting. We have an 18 month old golden retriever who is a *big* part of the family. You've chosen a great machine and on top of that you are getting things for others to enjoy as well-- it doesn't get any better than that!! Just be careful if the new pup is running around when you are using the .... "critically important mower!!"

OK we need a picture of the pup also ....

You are killing me-- OK-- lets start with engines..Have some homework for you, I want you to look how Kawasaki rates their HP and power output and compare it to Briggs- I want you to price a 24HP--Briggs and then a 24 HP kawi..report back to me when you know the difference and why the kawi costs more. Tell me if Torque and HP are same across, the output spectrum on both motors.. when you learn that grasshopper you will be on your way to discovering why the Kawi is considered a superior engine. No skimming--I'm going to ask you a few surprise 'pop" questions

Not all Briggs are bad ( in fact bad wording on my part- none of them are bad- but some are better than others, some manufacturers have Briggs make engines to their specifications ) but anyway low end Briggs are relatively inexpensive - no sense putting a 2000 hour engine in a lawn tractor that is expected to live 300-1000 hours-- Capisce?

This is what I found: Note* this is solely informative Guys and gals, nobody is bashing products so don't take it as such, products compared are just for an example scenario.

This is how B&S rate motors

How Do I Measure Engine Power'?' '|' Briggs & Stratton

This is how Kawasaki rates there's:

Press Releases | Small Engines - Lawn Mower Engines - Parts - Kawasaki

So what I found out is that Kawasaki makes around 3 styles of engine: Commercial (FX), Upper residential (FS Formally FH) and Lower residential (FR)

The big box stores got the FR line (Cubs ext). JD got basically the FH and FS motor and the commercial mowers got the FX line.

JD used to use the FH engine and now they use the FS engine, as far as I can tell the only difference is emission regulations.

FH>FR
Longer design life via better bearings, rings, crank bearing finish, air filter, larger blower housing and fan, and stuff like that.

Now deeper engine comparisons:

The 24hp version of this engine is in my GT husky: Intek Series '('V-Twin')'

This is the 24hp iTorque found in the X500 series:
[FS73V | Small Engines - Lawn Mower Engines - Parts - Kawasaki

Both engines follow SAE J1995 guidelines on engine specs.

I found nothing to suggest the Kawasaki will far outlast the B&S with the suggested maintenance, it seems the Kawasaki FS is more of a premium residential engine and the B&S is more comparable to the FR which is in big box store lower engine, nothing suggests there rated for X hours, since performance is comparable it's down to longevity between the two.

Briggs makes a more premium line also FYI.

Thanks all. Pup is still a little young to come home, 5 weeks. I had wife put down deposit today. They just went up for sale yesterday. We have a much older chocolate lap. Sweetest old girl with kids you ever did see. I buried my golden retriever two springs back. I've missed the girl, Annie, ever since.
We went to lunch with wife's parents today. They were going to go look at these puppies they had found. I sent my 15 year old with them to check out the pups. That's all it took. She is in love. Had my wife meet up with them an hour later to help pick one out. No need, daughter had that taken care of. Lol 😂.
Now they are debating over names.
Washer and dryer to be delivered Saturday. One of those broken Samsung recall issues. I've waited too long to take care of this. No pressure from wife. I walked into Home Depot and spied a beautiful Maytag set. I would have tossed them on truck at that moment but turns out they were delivery only. I'll place old units in basement for backup when me and the boys dirty a lot of clothes out mowing. 🤣 Can't wait for tomorrow. I hope they are behind in the shop.
