Well a friend call me and said you not gonna believe what happen to me today.I was pulled over by the state police and he gave me a ticket that carries a fine up to 10,000 dollars. He was pulling a trailer with equipment on a trailer dull wheel pick up and they wrote him a ticket for not having a medical card because his total weight was over 10,001 lb. I never heard of this have you?

"total weight" ..... on the trailer?? ..... "was over 10,001 lb."?
Was the combined GVWR over 26,001 lbs.?

I would go to your states website.

Without telling us your state, it is even more of a guess, than what you would normally get.

But the cop did write the ticket, he is probably more familar with that states laws than me.

no I have had a CDL for many years and am aware of the weight limits. the reason I didn't put the state was the trooper said it was a federal law that if you transported anything with a combined weight over 10.000 lb you were required to have a medical card.

>10,001 combined weight? That's nothing more than a well stacked load of wood in the bed of the pick-up or towing the boat with gear with a full tank of fuel and two passengers to the lake. Not knowing for certain but thinking (at least hoping) that can't be correct.

I hold a CDL, I think I would have to disagree initially.

Here is Ohio's handybook, page 19 has a flow-chart, which based on that chart a CDL would not be required, assuming the GCWR is under 26001. Despite the fact that the towed vehicle is 10k+.
