Silver Bottle, Diesel Kleen + Cetane Boost Additive (questions)

/ Silver Bottle, Diesel Kleen + Cetane Boost Additive (questions) #91

The dealer filled my tractor up when it was delivered. When it got down to a half I refilled it and checked the water seperator glass. It was half full of water. I emptyed it and as of today 2 years later there is no water showing. I told the service manager about it and he said there tank is an above ground tank and they have had problems in the past with cond in it. Now for the alage I had it in my skid steer and it took me almost a year to get rid of it. I was buying fuel filters by the case and I began to think I was buying the company making the alagecide

With the exception of the first few months of ULSD sales in 2006-2007. ULSD has addition lubricant blended in at the refinery . No extra feel good lucky charms required in the fuel tank.

Sorry, but i disagree.

Sorry, but i disagree.

Both statements bother me.
How does anyone know what a refinery is doing or going to do? Or what they did to their basic fuel ten years ago?
It's not like a refinery is promoting a brand name, or selling something that has a noticible consumer difference. It's just bulk diesel fuel.
What conceivable advantage is there for a refinery to add additional expense to their product in a price-competitive market?
I feel like I'm missing something here and have no idea what it is.

There are a plethora of independent tests out regarding wear tests. It might be useful to start posting links to them. In every single one I've read, the ULSD diesel from the pumps lubricating properties did not meet the auto industry's minimum recommendations.

I think when it comes to things like this, we can go straight to the science. There's not a lot of unknowns here, and not a lot of things we can't measure.

We can only hope that they blend the fuels correctly. Especially for cold climates. But, you still have to add additives regardless.

I can't prove adding 2 cycle oil will help your older engines...but I can say with certainty, it doesn't hurt. It's cheap insurance in my opinion. I'll keep doing it. YMMV

I can tell you that there nothing in the world like working on a tractor with jelled fuel at -20. Kind of puts a new meaning to hurry up

I wonder why it's said that diesel engines need lubrication for the upper cylinder components although gasoline engines don't seem to need similar lube additives in their fuel? Gasoline itself is way less oily than any diesel fuel.
And what is it about sulphur that makes it a good lubricant? Is that just a myth? Sulphur (or sulfur if you prefer) isn't naturally a friction reducer at all, and molecularly it doesn't seem to be part of the structure of any lubricating oils.
