If you happened to purchase it with a credit card, contact the issuer. They may have some recourse.

OK now a good tale.

Bought a used Jonsered (Husky same firm) chain saw, real nice showing very little signs of usage.
Still had original blade and chain and overall clean like a demo might be.
After a couple of years while cutting some dry pine (like 7-8") the chain stopped turning.
Upon closer look I discovered that the crank sheared behind the clutch.

I noticed a lack of radius at a machine step and called the distributor to point out the obvious flaw.
He said to bring the damaged crank and they replaced it for me FREE and that was on a (now 4-6 yr old saw)
I never threatened, hollered, just pointed out what I knew to be poor practice and basically did so on a 'heads up' basis.

It's always nice to hear of a dealer/manufacturer going the extra mile.

I find success when I contact a VP or the CEO secretary and will ask for that person by name if possible... it makes it more personal.

Sometimes I think the most effective person in an organization is the Admin or Executive Secretary for the CEO... everyone in the organization will take her call and this person knows how to expedite.

Apologize for bothering them but need to confirm the company is not going to stand behind their product... almost always this has led to a satisfactory solution.

Other options are small claims which tends to get everyone's attention, credit card if applicable and/or filing with the BBB... the BBB has also worked for me when many said I was wasting my time.

Well my experience with the BBB has proven to be negative as I was told that I was not a paid up member.
Had similar experience with other consumer protection groups as it seems they basically are more interested in selling memberships.
Usually get 'Sorry, U need to be a member for that info'.

Never been a member only a consumer...

Had a problem with Dell Computer at one time... paid extra for the warranty and Dell wanted me to re-install, re-format, etc when I had paid for onsite service.

Didn't have time to monkey around so I paid $60 to have it repaired and Dell denied the claim.

Filed a case with the BBB and two weeks later Dell sent me a letter saying they had reconsidered along with a $60 check and asking if the matter was resolved if I could report back to the BBB which I did.

Another time was with a large area auto parts retailer that was always advertising product only to find it was not available... told the manager I was filing with the BBB and had the complaint form in hand and only wanted to document that he, the manager, was unwilling to help and asked him for the proper spelling of his name for the complaint...

He said he would call me next week when the truck arrives and gave me a 12 unit case of Gunk Engine Bright at no charge and asked if this would resolve the issue... so I actually did not file with the BBB.

I'd bought a can of clear UV sealer spray paint from Walmart. I went to use it only to find that it was missing the nozzle. I went through every stupid spray can that I had and I had NOTHING that would work! I don't know, perhaps it was $5, but I didn't get what I'd paid for. All I needed was a stupid nozzle and I didn't have a need for buying another whole can. I wrote to the company (Krylon) and then sent me 13 nozzles!

And then on the other end of the spectrum, I bought some Koni shocks for the daughter's car. Installed them (part of a complete suspension refresh) and discovered thacourse, t I had a clunking noise from the rear of the car. I had to hand the car back to her and wasn't able to verify where the noise was coming from (only that there was nothing loose; everything was safe). Within a couple of months (car isn't near me) I was able to find out that one of the shocks was defective. So, I end up with a replacement; BUT, I end up paying shipping. So, I effectively participated in the crappy QA program and it cost me $20! And that doesn't include the other costs for single-use bolts and MY labor. They kept pointing at their warranty which states they don't cover shipping. Sorry, but this was brand new, it didn't fail, it was bad from the get-go! I like these shocks, but, man, do I really want to help keep them in business after this?

Used to be. J-red was sold off... I'm thinking it was about 5 years ago. In that neighborhood, anyway.

Still had original blade and chain

Chain saws do not have blades.

Legalized rackets, IMO. I have no use for them or their ratings.
