Third time my tractor nearly killed me

I know that everyone's circumstances are different, but I for one am a believer in only taking my tractors out of 4x4 when need be, such as on a paved road. Other than that I leave my machines in 4x4 mode. I would rather accept the minimal addition wear and tear than be caught in 2wd with a problem. I would bet that my 75hp tractor hasn't been out of 4x4 mode 10 times in the last 12 years.
Yep, mine is always in 4 wheel unless on a road.

Lets not be too hasty here. Although I'm not advocating a 'tractor operator licence', there is something to be said for a 'course' on tractor operation. New to tractor owners learn by trial & error, plus reading their owners manual... experience being the 'great teacher'.

A bit of further thought on this; an operator's course or instruction could be an 'option' provided by a dealership. A half day spent learning about tractor operation, material handling and basic maintenance (location of grease nipples & such).

It wouldn't be compulsory but newbie would get a lot of confidence out of it.

Sorry to burst your little rural versus urban rant, but the cumulative vote was 142 for versus 5 against. So that seem like broad support whether they voted for HRC or DJT. Isn't it a heart breaking bummer when your hate turns out to be miss placed

HB 311 :: Oregon Legislature Bill Tracker - Your Government - The Oregonian[/QUOT
BUBBLE NOT BURST WRONG VOTE Rural VS Urban rant still going
That vote was for the very narrow law for rural counties after business close, people in our county and others WANT TO PUMP OUR OWN GAS but there would be too many people put out of work and the other laws allowing more self pumping did not get voted on.

I have a locking fuel cap on the Dodge Diesel to keep the idiots from putting gas in it when I am fueling up the Toy Hauler, until they banned the topping off, actually had one guy overfill the tank and spilled gas to make $20 even so he would not have to make change.

Amazing how the high school drop outs you went to school with are the only ones at a gas station ok'd by the state to pump gas.

"Banned the topping off". Just curious. Cold you explain that one ? Does it mean your not allowed to fuel up ATV where your running them ? Or not allowed to haul spare fuel in the toy hauler ? Or ?

Topping off would be slowly putting in more fuel after the autofill valve in the nozzle shuts off the flow of fuel. On some cars this will let you add another gallon, but it also risks having fuel overflow and go down the side of the car.

Your kidding right?
I can pump my own gas fine, been doing it 40 years, they will not let me here.

If I am too stupid to pump gas how come nobody comes home with me to fill everything up when I bring the cans home or use my fuel station?

The Portland idiots are fighting the rural counties on the right to self pump gas because they are

A: too lazy and

B: do not want to loose some of the only jobs that they can qualify for, as gas station attendant because they are too busy protesting and flunk out of school.

One of the things I like about my NH T4.75 is that when you apply the brakes the unit automatically goes into 4 wheel drive even if you are in 2 wheel drive before applying the brakes.

Is this only when you apply both brakes, or does it go into 4WD when applying just one?

One would think this in and out of 4WD with every braking would be more wear and tear than just driving around all the time in 4wd (excluding on pavement).
There's no clutch on 4WD engagement. I know that for most 4WD (trucks & tractors) that the front & rear wheels have to be "unbound" for the transfer case to engage/ungage, so how does this do it automatically and not have to "force it" ?

Regarding driving in 2WD to save wear and tear, remember, the front axle, universal joints, and drive shaft are still turning in 2wd, just no torque passing through.

Regarding the OP doing 20mph with both rear tires locked up. Something is very wrong. Need more traction (weight?) or less steeper hill.

The 4wd applied when braking is only on newer electronically actuated 4wd the new Kubota M7060 has it too . Saw it on a messicks video. and I also learned that there are two holes to put the loader lift cylinder into one for higher lift and less capacity and one for lower lift but more capacity kind of like most three point arms. Why don't all loader manufacturers do this. we could all use a little more lift every once in a while.

First time I went to NJ on business, I hit a gas station on the way to the airport to fill the rental car back up. Hopped out, went to pull the cap off and start the pump and a guy comes running screaming at me, "you can't do that"!! I was like the what the heck is this dude freaking out about.

He says you can't pump your own gas. I said sure I can, I've been doing it my whole life. He said no, NJ is full service and you can't pump your own. Then I understood. Surprising that the gas price there is almost as cheap as here in SC even with them filling you up.

Being from Michigan and then spending most my life in SC, I haven't seen a full service offering since I was a young kid. Not sure what the benefit is supposed to be for NJ, but I don't get out of the car anymore when I travel there to pump gas, that's for sure. I guess it's kind of nice in the winter to stay in your car and stay warm.

I have a 2004 JD 4120 with 300 hours on it. Original owner. My ground is very steep, where you can only go up/down. I was brushhogging my field and I just started going down the crest of my hill and my transmission popped out of 'B' gear into neutral-- I was in 2wd. Even with the rear wheels locked up, the tractor picked up speed and was going over 20mph by the time I reached the bottom of the hill. How I didn't flip... no idea.

Anyway, this has happened two other times over the last 13 years resulting in real pants-filling experiences. I forgot my rule: always gear 'A' and 4wd, as it has never happened.

I really need to get this fixed, if there is something to fixed, as I dare not let my kids use it. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

There is a pattern here and more than one problem.
