Re: Cheap $20 a month Stand Alone Unlimited Rural Internet through AT&T Wireless

The router I use (from this thread) was $26. So $85 seems high to me.

Do you have a preference? Not much for reviews on the second one and I need to order one soon because my D Link 655 doesn't do DDWRT.

I like them about equally. Maybe favor the 300 just a bit and there is a 5hz add on in the works.

Have you a link for when the 5Hz add on may come out? I noticed on Amazon
No. 5G addon is still under development

and
It is 300mbps 2.4G. 5G will be 430Mbps as least per channel. No need to set to 150mbps for repeater.

but I can't find a solid reference.

/edit - I just saw the reference on GLI – WiFi for Things, but it still reads like vaporware.

just ordered one of these (and a power adapter from Amazon) for my daughter. She's going to be living off campus and this should be a much cheaper alternative to her having to get Comcast cable internet. Everything should be here by Friday.

I finally overcame my reluctance to give them my SS number and ordered one from ATT. Ordered on Sunday and got tracking today. It already has a phone number assigned and sent me an email to change the pin so I assume it will arrive activated. Still remains to be seen if I can even get a connection from here but I figured it's worth the gamble. If it doesn't connect I guess I can send it back. I paid the $99 plus tax for the no activation fee and no contract.

Been a Centurylink customer ever since they bought out the local phone company. Had the same number since 1979 and only use it for DSL now. Only get 1.5 Mbps down and .21 up. Have to beg for customer loyalty price every year to get the price down. Currently only paying $32 per month but I know they will try to up it again and probably won't go below the $45 deal they are advertising now. Hacks me off they give people up to 25 Mbps down for that price and want me to pay the same for less. Maybe this is the year I kick em to the curb.

Has anyone purchased this $26 router from the alhao seller on Amazon? Where did it ship from? Did they ship it fast?

I order the router yesterday, suppose to be here Wednesday.

As mentioned on this thread, I'm catching the Mobley hanging after a period of time....it needs rebooted overnight. I might put it on a timer to reboot at 2am.

It just so happens, that last Friday we had lightening strike extremely close. Blew three circuit breakers in my barn, and blew up the main router I had in use. Only thing attached to that router was my cat5 network, security cameras, and printer, since I dropped the old internet I had over a month ago, and had been using just my unlimited on my phone for internet. So it's timely to completely redo my network.

Are you a prime customer or is that regular shipping?

Not sure I want or need the router but the extended wifi range may appeal to me if I were to get a wifi security camera at some point.

Prime. Printing I think I could get around without network. Security cameras need it. Plus I'm going to experiment with directtv now and P SV. Direct tv is to expensive.

A $26 router will be exactly that, I wouldn't expect much out of it.

Works great. Can do USB to micro USB at Mobley. The Mobley port is covered with a label/sticker to peel off. Sometimes hard to see. I believe earlier in thread you'll find the configuration, very straightforward and as far as I read not the problems reported by the $80 Asus router.

I also have the ar300 but settings are the same:

I disagree. Does the job perfectly for my 15+ devices for a couple months now.

Been meaning to play with open vpn... Just no time!

My network...is really small. Security cameras and printer. Don't need expensive routers.

Mine came in today. Plugged into truck outside and connected my phone via wifi. Had 10.16 down and 1.36 up. Got it rigged up in my computer room in the house and only getting 4+ down and .43 up.

Edit: Figured out where to set the no time out.

Also if you have any ideas on why my PC won't connect I'm all ears.

Does your PC have wifi? Some desktops do not. If it does, what is the situation that you are experiencing? Can the PC see the Mobley? Is it prompting you for the wifi password but failing to establish the connection? Is it seeming to connect but not getting any Internet access? Any error messages?

As for the speeds, try putting the Mobley closer to a window and/or higher up in the room. Avoid any metal objects nearby and preferrably have it in an exterior room, not one with no outside walls.

My PC is using a USB wifi adapter because the wired ports on my Centrylink modem died. It sees the Mobley and prompts for the password then fails to connect. So far I have connected my phone, wife's notebook, and the TV without issues. I may have to order a router and use that to get at the PC. At least I could connect back to the network by cable with a router since it's in the same area.

I have the mobley sitting in the window sill and tried it higher up but no real change. Speed test on wife's notebook came in a 5+ down and .85 up so about 4 times faster than our DSL. I can live with that. Tried a trailer on the TV through Amazon and it loaded in half the time or less than usual.

That's a tough one to troubleshoot then, at least as far as I know. I have a laptop in the family that acts like that and I haven't figured out why. Perhaps someone else here can offer good thoughts on troubleshooting. My suggestion would be to remove the wifi adapter and associated drivers from Windows and attempt to re-install fresh. It's apparent it is not the Mobley since other things can connect.

I went ahead and ordered that router from an ebay seller in Miami. Hopefully it will come fast so I can work through my PC connection.

Mobley was shutting off fast in my truck when I turned the truck off. Hasn't shut off at all in the house. I have it connected to a notebook power supply that has 15 VDC out so maybe it thinks the vehicle is running. I did also find where to tell it not to turn off when the vehicle was turned off. I am assuming it sensed whether or not the vehicle was running by voltage input.
