I'm not looking for a fight or saying anything one way or the other - but as a Canadian, even the CONCEPT of carrying/needing a handgun while on a tractor is mindboggling. In fact, I actually thought the thread was a joke when I first read it.
I guess our two cultures - even though we share a 2500 mile common border - are miles apart in that regard. But hey, whatever floats your boat, I guess.
I see a firearm as a tool and nothing more.

I'm just very glad I live in a community/area where nobody has to carry to feel safe. Believe me, I own sufficient guns, both long and hand, to start a second revolution. I will have a gun with me if I go out on my property looking for something - either two legged, four legged or scaly belly.

If you live in a community where its only safe when you carry, then get proper training and keep current with your skill set.
Safety is one aspect but preparedness is another angle.

Fortunately, we live in a country where a person does have options on how they choose to be safe.

Midniteoyl - some times there is no accounting for those folk that live on the west side. H*LL, I've had visitors from Seattle that wouldn't drink my country water because its not chlorinated & fluoridated. And since they were out here in the "wilds" - they were probably carrying also.
Amen on options to feel safe.

Interesting points of view on a topic that can be quite volatile, yet rather respectful in this group. Thank you.
Agreed...interesting discussion and points of view.

Two words...........Wild Hogs.

Yep, I know a fellow who carries a rifle in the cab of his John Deeres (he has 3 of them) all the time. And it's for the feral hogs AND for coyotes.

Read the other day that Texas has more feral hogs than any state in the US and they are a real problem down here. I don't farm, but those that do and even those with nothing but a truck patch have to put some serious fence around their crops.

I taught the "Women's Handgun Seminar" At a local Bass Pro for about 10 years. I grew up with a pistol in my hand, or nearby. But trying to explain to someone why ones "worldview" would think it a good idea to be prepared is pretty much a waste of time. If they don't think that way on their own, nothing you are going to say is going to convince them.

Of the women that came to the Seminars, a very large and significant percentage were NOT pro gun or wanted anything to do with a firearm, until IT happened. What IT was varied from being accosted, threatened, beaten, or flat out raped. Yep, lots and lots of rape victims. The majority of them went to my Wife's shooting lane and took instruction from her, because they did not want a male instructor. Yes, I have seen and heard it all. This was quite a few years ago, and while some of the women just wanted to learn, because they thought it would be neat, most that came, had "something " prompt the session.
That something, was bad enough to make them overcome their fear, and overcome their bias against firearms, and be willing to put the effort into learning how to defend themselves.

Of all my years I have only needed a firearm a few times. And I have never shot anyone or even shot at anyone. The few times I have drawn it was enough to stop or in most cases preclude the fight. I hope to get thru this without ever having to defend my life with lethal force. I do my very best to "stay out of trouble". And in most cases you can see trouble coming a mile away. But not always. Evil can find you if it wants to. It has darkened my door a few times.

So for those of you that have "boggled minds", or otherwise doubt the wisdom of being prepared, good for you. You can see life any way you want to. I am perfectly happy with you not having, or not carrying or even hating firearms. I just don't care. I am good with your opinion. Just don't try to take my right to think, and do differently.
Well said.

I got my first gun at age 5, an old single shot break-over .410. Daddy took me out to shoot it, but along with shooting there was a lesson. He grabbed one of my toys, forgot, what it was and put it up there with some cans of beans and soda pop bottles and some targets. He first taught to aim and hit something, the we went onto the stuff and he pointed out the damage it did and when I saw my toy all mangled it made an impression and seeing a can of beans explode also was amazing and let me know at age 5 that gun can kill.

I have had to use a gun in combat and trust me, taking a life even of a bad actor leaves one with a different feeling, lot of guys throw up, I didn't but sure affected me. Its a line once crossed you can never go back.

Long time ago, Igor and Gruff got into a fight over some cave woman. Igor got whipped pretty bad and left out to recover from the beating. Later he hid in the bushes and as Gruff walked by he hit him with a rock, then went an took his woman back. Gruff lived and came up with a better plan, a sharp stick from about 20 feet away, he did and he got his woman back again. Fast forward to 2017 and we can take note, nothing has changed except the stick.

Take away: Choose to NOT be a victim! Fastest growing segment of gun ownership is with women, they are choosing to not be a victim any longer...

I have a sign on my gate: This gate is locked for YOUR protection, NOT mine!

Folks from other states often get arrested in NJ when they are carrying legally from another state. You can legally open carry on your own property but no one can carry concealed anywhere. Concealed carry permits are only issued to retired law enforcement. Moreover you need to get an individual permit for EACH handgun purchased. Lots of stories about folks from other states driving through NJ with a legal (in their home state) handgun in their car getting arrested and jailed when they advise a police officer stopping them that a weapon is in the car (as they are often required to do in their home state). Fortunately, the government in NJ has eliminated all crime and there is no reason to carry anywhere. Some folks think I'm a barbarian because theres a loaded Remington wingmaster hidden inside near my back door. By the way, snakes and other varmits in the field I leave alone. Poisonous snakes by the house or shop get the pointy end of a shovel- no other weapon needed.

Its a growing problem and game being played by various far left states.

You can't carry open, you can't carry concealed, if you are honest and say yes I have one in the car, then either open view or concealed you go to jail. In other words you cannot win, you have committed a crime just passing thru. The far left is slowly strangling the 2nd Amend rights by silly rules, regs and laws.

Right now, States that Require Registration of Pre-Ban Assault Weapons, 50 Caliber Rifles, and/or Large Capacity Magazines: Six states (California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York) have banned assault weapons. The wording of these phony laws is beyond the pale. There is no such thing as an "assault weapon" this is a contrived catch all phrase to take your gun and put you in jail. In fact in some states the law reads so loosely that if you owned a 1776 Brown Bess Musket, Flintlock, as issued to the US Army of that time it can be confiscated and put you in jail as it fits the criteria for their assault weapon.

Just for the record: The 2nd Amend is not about guns, its about our GOD GIVEN right to defend our selves, our family and our property...

At this point I'm always carrying something ... the Glock is a little unwieldy when doing manual labor or on the tractor ... but the LCP easily fits into a pocket. Not the easiest to get to if I'm sitting on the tractor, but I can always stand up or lean back and stretch out my leg if I need to get to it.
I carry an LCP, and mostly wear pants with side cargo pockets to hold said pistol. Even though I'm in a relatively built-up area, we have coyotes (keeps the feral cat population down, at least).
