I don't have the exact number off hand but the insurance was something like $46 a month for the entire loan amount spread over 60 months.

3 grand - wow.

Your homeowners insurance covers tractor and equipment. That's loan interest by another name as far as I'm concerned. I know some have had the Kubota insurance pay off for some types of mishaps, but they are the minority. That's three large down the drain for most people.

So when I bought my brand new bota last month that 2,000 dollars worth of insurance tacked on to the price shocked the heck out of me. Even with them explaining that it was over the life of the loan etc. I was not going to accept that. I contacted Kubota insurance directly and said that I have never and will never purchase 5 to 7 years worth of insurance up front EVER. They had a plan that I could purchase annually and it was a little cheaper as it would replace 80% loss and not 100% loss of tractor value. Anyway there is another option out there you dealers might not discuss with you.

Thinking about it, since its zero percent they just tacked on $4000 dollar to my loan and it increased the payment by $47 dollars. So really I am paying the insurance by the month either way. If they were charging interest I would have been more concerned about buying 7 years of insurance.

How much cheaper was that 80% coverage ? I would have gone with that if I had known about it, it is nice knowing if something happens to the tractor I get a new one for $250 though.

Yea paying the insurance sucks but it's worth it in the end if something happens plus homeowners insurance only covers the equipment while it's on the property. Besides I financed through kubota and there's no opting out of buying the kubota insurance with them. Had I been able to finance through my credit union for 0% interest I'd have gone that route.

If you own the equipment and only use the tractor on your property and homeowner's insurance covers it, then I don't see a need for KTAC. I have it on my tractor and RTV, both purchased cash, only because I take them off my property frequently. For $250 a year per machine, it's cheap.

For tractors that are financed and the lien holder requires insurance, I would think it's possible to get a waiver for the KTAC requirement if you could prove coverage by other policy, i.e., homeowners, but that would be a question for Kubota. I can't believe they can legally force you to use KTAC. They can legally require insurance (like mortgages, boat loans, car loans, RV loans usually do) but I don't think it has to be with a specific company.

Yes that is true. You don't have to have Kubota insurance. You just have to prove machine is insured. You can do that through a farm policy, home owners, etc etc. There's pluses and minuses of course to either one.

Having owned both, I really would consider the mini ex. Even a small one will outdig a tractor hoe by a wide margin.

BH on the L3901 is fairly limed. Don't plan on large projects

Any backhoe is limited but with 2 acres of my own property, a 1/2 mile road and lots of little odd jobs and digging projects to do, this setup works best for me and will be a lot better than what I have now which is no backhoe. That said I'd love to have a nice mini excavator but it wouldn't do everything I need to do and because of that it has to wait unfortunately.

Since it seems like you've been doing OK without HST for quite awhile, you might consider just keeping the 3901 DT and get a mini ex instead of a 3901 HST with BH. I had a 3901 with BH77 and a mini ex is a lot more capable. Also I found it was a pain to take the BH off and store it to use the 3 point. For what the 3901 with BH costs, you should be able to get a nice mini ex like a KX71 with quick coupler and hydraulic thumb.

It's really nice to have both a tractor and a mini ex.

Unfortunately I can't have it both ways. Living on a fixed income at the moment because of factors beyond my control pretty much rules out getting both. Believe me a mini excavator is high up on my list of things I want but it doesn't fit my needs and the only things it'd be good for as far as my needs go are digging and possibly lifting/moving stuff. I can't plow snow, grade or rake my road, and I can't till my garden with it. Either way, not that it's a bad setup but I was tired of shifting gears and the shuttle on my current L3901DT with all the loader work I've been starting to do and I've been kicking myself for not just getting the HST in the first place. At the time I had physical issues that made it painful to operate the HST treadle peddle so that's why I'm trading it in for the HST version now. I like the tractor and it fits probably 90% of my needs, I just don't have the digging ability at the moment which is where the backhoe comes into play. Still having a loan out on my current Tractor, I wasn't expecting to go in and work a deal on a brand new Tractor and backhoe but the dealer I originally bought from offered me quite a bit more than what I still owed which enabled me to put a decent down payment on the new tractor with the backhoe added in to the deal. My wife and I went round and round with the idea of a trading in my current tractor for a bigger more capable tractor as well but after really considering everything it made more sense to either keep what I have, buy the backhoe later and not be completely happy or trade it in for the same thing but HST. I actually hadn't planned on getting the backhoe just yet but I was able to get the deal worked out with it included.

Cool, you will love the HST I believe.

Do you get to keep your third function or is that something you have to add on to the new tractor?

Oh yeah, I get it....sneaky though in my opinion. I bought the 80% value KTAC insurance for about $1,500 vs $2,000. I was also able to pay for it outside the scope of the loan for the first year so I didn't have to go chasing a refund or whatever if I paid the loan off. Also, I can expense the insurance more easily if outside the loan of the tractor. Not sure if the statements you receive have all that on there when deprecating equipment for tax purposes....but mostly it was just the annoyance of trying to get me to purchase insurance for the next 7 years tacked on to my loan. I went in to it thinking I was paying one price then I saw another price around 2 grand higher.

As far as the insurance goes etc., it has the same $250 deductible and will replace 80% of the value of the tractor which is pretty good unless someone thinks they are going to burn the thing down to molten metal.

Trade up to an L45 id what you mostly do is non Ag related. The BT1000 is double a BH77, not to mention the loader.

If it were financially feasible I'd love to get an M62 for TLB work and an L3901 for everything else and be done with it but really just trading in for a new L3901HST right now was already making our budget tight but adding the backhoe in puts me right at my limit for affordability. The TLB series are nice but I also don't like that the loader can't come off. I actually take mine off quite a bit as it is. The L3901 is big enough for most everything but still small and nimble enough with enough ground clearance to go out through woodlots and my ATV trails but still be able to work comfortably up around houses and tight spaces. If I had my way I'd probably have at least six different kubotas and maybe someday I'll get there but for now I had to pick the biggest most affordable Swiss Army knife of a tractor that I can get.

Dealer has it almost all put together. Just waiting on my R1 ag tires and the hydraulic hoses to hook up my third function. Can't wait! Best part is, when I initially got the quote I hadn't anticipated having the manual thumb installed on the backhoe but they added it anyway! Score!IMG_3078.JPGIMG_3079.JPG

Suggestion: When the R1 tires come in, consider having the dealer install them at the widest setting. Will make a huge difference in stability.

I've run them at their widest settings on my current tractor but put them back to a narrower width because my rear blade didn't stick out as far as I wanted for snow clearing along our road. The added stability is nice but not always needed
