New Firestone radials on M7040.

I looked at the BKT and will probably eventually get some for the front. I thought I had a price for them but can't find it. They seemed reasonably priced and I think they had a European looking design. They can still chew things up a bit, especially if the air pressure in higher, the loader is on or you make sharp turns, especially in FWA.

I think there is a guy from Europe or Canada here with an M7040 or 7060 that has those tires on the front. I saw a picture here and am pretty sure of it.

That's me...pretty all the M series sold in Canada came on Metric radials, 360/70R20 was the standard front tire size despite not being listed in the operator's manual or sales lit....

Thank you and yes, that's the tractor. Canada is way ahead of the radials on Kubotas thing. Good looking tractor and I'll bet those tires will pull.

My dealer has been trying to get a set of the 250/85R24's for the front of my M7040 and no luck so far.

Thanks. That tractor almost floats...rears are loaded plus the cast centers. The fronts carry the loader very well. I've driven over places with the loader on that the tractor hardly made a mark, and the other 2wd tractor with 7.50-16 fronts was sinking in....

Kubota offered the R1W radials standard, where the others had bias ply and the narrow 9.5-24 fronts. The tires were a major selling point on the tractor.

Your new radials look sharp. Ever thing of trying to get 20" rims from Canada? Might be easier, might even find a wrecked one or something.

I bought some Kverneland plow parts from Quebec once and it was a costly proposition. I need to find someone across the border--maybe Ontario-- that can buy the radial equal to 9.5x24 and drive across to meet me. I know enough people from Quebec province as well as the Maritimes so here's hoping on that plan. Firestone makes two different radials and other makers lots more.

Your tractor with those tires is a lifetime keeper. Maybe longer. But that soil you are plowing. Maybe I've been to the wrong spot in NS but I didn't see much actual soil/dirt like you have but rather lots of gravel and ledge.

Seeing your tractor when you first showed the pictures of it got me thinking about getting an M7040--with radials. I have radials on other tractors and they pull great and float over lawns and such, even with rear weights. The Firestones I bought act like an R4 on grass and barely leave a mark. For me on anything above maybe 65 HP, it will be radials.

Do you still have those first photos of the tractor so I can look again?

Terrain varies a lot in NS, pretty well all red clay on this farm, go a few minutes away downhill and it's sandy and gravel. The best ag land tends to be near the river bottoms, here's the photo you were asking about, the field being plowed is downhill from this. You can see it's up in the hills.

Farmer495--what is the brand of your radials?

I have the Firestone rear radial but the only brand I can get for the 9.5x24 front is an "Agrimax". It resembles yours and looks like it will be fine. My tire shop sells a lot and has only had one come back. I ordered the fronts and they will be in around October.

They are some "weird" brand, Kleber, Super 8L.

They have English and some other foreign language wrote on them. I'm happy with them so far, only have 400 odd hours on them though.

I too, just installed new 16.9X30 tires,, non-radials.

I too, noted dramatic traction increase, even though the tires are not radial.

Possibly my traction increase is due to newer tire bar design,,
possibly it is due to the old tires becoming rigid over time,,

So, possibly, part of the traction increase is simply the fact that the previous tires were old??

On the other hand,, I did put radial tires on a garden tractor one time.

These radials were new ATV takeoffs,,, the traction increase was at least 5-fold,,
I do like radials,,,

I think I recognize those tires from an earlier post of yours. I believe they are Goodyear or Goodrich (or a knockoff) and now made by Titan. In either event that is one of the best tread patterns around in that it travels well on the road because of all the rubber in the middle of the tread. It also pulls well because of the bars. One tractor of mine had those on years ago that I bought and when I went back for another set for a different tractor couldn't get them. All that rubber in the middle makes them act like an R4 on grass. Lower the air pressure and they pull even better. Great tire.

The right tire makes a difficult job much easier. Congrats on great tires. Nice tractor as well that I recall had a story behind it?

Any concerns about overtaxing the transmission by making the load on the tractor increase so much? Aren't the tires slipping the ultimate "clutch" in protecting you transmission from overload damage or premature wear?
