The filter shouldn't have male threads (I have a peice of equipment that uses the same filter) there must a nipple to adapt to the trans case, most likely shown in a different diagram.Thinking about it now, since they are female threads, the filter has the male threads on it which protrude out of the filter. The place it protrudes out of could easily bend when it was struck. If the male threads were on the case, that would bend first so this could be a good thing that the threads are setup like this.
That filter has fairly heavy wall thickness so whatever dented it must have hit pretty hard, quite possible the sealing area was damaged slightly.
Also possible that the drawing doesn't show it properly but iirc there's a steel adaptor nipple screwed into the case.
