I must have snugged it too tight. The threads from the transmission side pulled out. I was tightening it and wasn't even going that tight I didn't think and it got loose. I took it back out and the threads were on the bolt.

I don't understand how you can hand tighten it, then with a snug of a wrench, the threads pull out? What do you mean "threads pulled out"? Did you cross thread it?

Very frustrated. I bought new so I didn't have to work on it. It's just been a bad experience since day one. I ended up getting an oversize oil filter bolt with a piggy back and put that in. I don't like doing that, but it seems to be holding for now, but I want to give it a few days to know for sure. I did work on the original problem and replaced the oil filter and the replaced the oil filter thread pipe just to be safe, which that part went without any issue's, so hopefully that problem is solved, but we'll see.

In order to fix the stripped out threads on the oil drain, I'll have to replace part 060 in the attached picture. I am going to see if the oversized oil bolt holds without leaking. If it does, I'll see about getting that part replaced and fix it right.

I think that's an excellent idea. Have them fix it for you. Things happen. It's brand new so let dealer sort it out. Sounds like you are getting frustrated which is very understandable.

You should be able to rethread to the next size up and use a bigger plug. Also have you tried running a tap in the original threads to clean them up?

The bolt pulled out along with the threads, so re tapping the original size won't work. I did order the replacement part from Messicks this morning. The original issue is fixed, no more leaking from the oil filter, but the piggy back plug has a extremely small leak. I got the housing, seal and a new oil plug bolt and seal just to be safe. I make one stupid mistake and all this happens. It's very frustrating.

lzicc - very sorry to read of your woes. That is certainly not the kind of surgery I'd prefer to do on a brand new tractor. Your thread now has me extremely concerned as am about to upgrade from a BX2200 (with a history of hard tube hydraulic issues) to a B2650 on part to avoid hydraulic headaches.

If you'll allow a post mortem ... You said
There were some really small stumps sticking up about a foot or so. They were maybe an inch or so wide. I backed up over them and heard a noise.

* It appears that one of these little sticks got up between the hydrau' filter and maybe the axle housing (lookin' at your pix#4) and levered the filter enough to dent it and break the transmission-side filter threads. That's my interpretation of the problem and please correct me if that's wrong.

* The B2650 has a nominal ground clearance of 14.6 inches and the images suggest the mid-pt of the filter is another ~4+ inches beyond the lower frame, so I'm guessing these are more like 18-20" tall 'stumps'. That may not be approved use, but frankly I think you could have seem the exact same problem if you backed over some downed brush or fallen branches. When (not if) they get jammed up in there this sort of levering can occur.

It appears to me that the transverse mounted hydrau' filter and it's exposure from below, along with the inevitable level points up in there, are a design problem. The gods of bad-luck didn't have to work overtime in your case.

Given that, I'd want to find a way to bolt a protective shroud in that area before I took a B2650 off the lawn & garden..

Comments please ? Is that over-protective thinking ?

I got the new part in. The old part is out and everything is switched over. I am letting the make a gasket dry, but everything is hand tight. Messick 's was nice enough to email me the breakdown but I am having some issue's understanding the torque for the 4 bolts that hold the housing in. See attached. They are very tight when I took the 4 bolts out, but I don't want to make a mistake and over tighten them. What are the proper foot lbs for the 4 bolts, number 140. To me it looks like a little over 1/2 foot lb, but that can't be right.

Looking at this again, I am wondering if that is the actual weight of the item.

Yup that's item weight, not torque spec. Torque specs will be in service manual, should be able to look up based on bolt size.

I found a service manual online, but cannot seem to find the torque specs for the mid pto. I have the workshop manual for my model.

I can't find the bolt size either.
