B21 1,100 hrs 2007. I'm the second owner purchased it with 600 or so hrs. Today while going up slight incline machine started screeching and grinding. Putting it in neutral the noise is not as bad, put the clutch down noise is much worse. Is there a way to diagnose that it's the clutch not the tranny? Forward and back pedal feels slightly funky but not sure if it's not because the clutch won't engage. Tractor will not move at all. Need help has its stuck on someone else's yard.

Sounds like a clutch issue since pressing the pedal makes the noise worse.
Either way, you need to tow it somewhere you can split it.

I did a clutch job and my 1989 wrangler. How bad is the B21 clutch job?

I guess you didn't need to split the Wrangler in half?

Other than that, pretty similar.

When you say split the tractor, you mean the tranny from the engine? Or split has in down the middle?

Trans/Engine. Front/Back halves to access the clutch.

On a tractor as small as a B21 a split should be relatively easy.
Probably should have a good repair manual, before beginning the project.

Is it okay to tow the tractor in neutral for about 3 miles, or should I flatbed it?

If you can get it into 'Neutral'... ?

Tow it slowly. Fast walking pace should be ok. 20-30 minutes journey. If you're on 'busy' roads then flatbed it. :2cents:

Also I attempted to engage the rear pto today nothing happened.

It's 'toast'. The more you 'play' with it the more $$$ you stand to spend. Clear some space somewhere and roll out your toolbox.

Leaving Sunday on a 10 day elk hunting trip to Colorado, driving out. Guess I know what I'm doing when I get home.

The B21 is an industrial tractor, unlike most CUTs owned by folks on TBN. What that means is that
there is a mainframe that holds the whole tractor together and supports the FEL, FOPS, and hoe. It has
to come off first before you can split the tractor. Of course that means the FEL and hoe are removed
first, and the FEL is not QA.

My tractor splitting score is about 7 total, incl one B21. The B21 is far more work than other regular CUTs.

Wow! Dfkrug I'm looking at a major takedown. My FEL is bent and always wanted to buy a new one this maybe the time. But this maybe more then I can handle. I'm mechanically inclined but that looks like a ton of work. Guess a paint job at the same time during breakdown.

Has anyone ever had the clutch just go, basically under no load?
