+1 on the boogeyman. I'm pretty sure I've seen him watching me as well

For the back, I was thinking on dead center on back of the canopy and one on the engine cover

I just went with one on the engine cover. More than enough light. Vital for plowing snow in the dark.

Of course, now I live somewhere that it almost never snows, and when it doesn, not enough to be worth plowing. :D

where I live, the boogey man could be a cougar. I have a nice 2000 lumen flashlight I carry when I walk the dog at night.

Nitecore Explorer EC4S Searchlight - CREE XPH50 LED - 2150 Lumens - Uses 2 x 18650s or 4 x CR123As
Two weeks ago, sister lost three goats and her neighbor's dog, blue healer, is missing too. My nephew said it looked like cat tracks in the pasture and he saw a big cat jump across the road below their house, in a single bound, ditch to ditch. I lent him my game camera to hopefully get a picture.

I mounted one in the center of the canopy in the back. I haven't run the wires yet. A couple thoughts on location...

Under the canopy in the center facing backwards, it will cast a shadow behind the tractor because of the engine cover... but the operator can't see behind the engine cover when backing up anyway, and the light will be higher and farther back than the operator's head, so the shadow issue shouldn't be an issue.... until you want to mess with the hitch pin at night. But that's rare for me.

Also, under the canopy in the center facing back might be helpful with nighttime repairs inside the engine compartment.

But hanging under the canopy poses a head bump hazard, and can get hooked on branches in heavy brush (yes, I'm a brush abuser).

I could never mount one on top of my engine compartment without putting a steel cage around it, as I've already ripped my fire extinguisher off several times.

Another possible location is inside the engine compartment looking through the screen at the rear. That cuts the light output significantly, but protects the light.

Under the canopy in the center facing backwards,

To me, the downside is that when you turn while backing, due to the articulation, the light will be pointing away from where you are backing. If it is a wide enough flood light, that probably isn't a problem.

Yep, the canopy is attached to the front section, so you will be turning the rear to one side of the beam or the other, that's for sure. Hence, the cautions by others to select FLOOD vs BEAM, depending on application.

Since these LEDs are so low of a power draw, maybe one under the canopy and another on the rear somewhere would be the best of both worlds.
