They have stationary bicycles with generators and every man has to pedal for few hours every day. It keeps them in shape and the batteries charged. I think that is what they do. I might be wrong about that.

The whole point of nuclear power is that the sub can stay underwater for very long time so nobody knows where it is. The Russians have submarine port in Sevastopol that is underground so nobody sees the subs going in or out.
I have a relative who used to be a supply officer on a sub. He told me that food supply is only limitation how long the sub can stay submerged away from the port or supply ship.

That doesn't seem like nearly enough energy. Probably the equivalent of a hood mounted solar panel on a car.

You can think whatever of Musk and Tesla but you can't fight the future.

Someday, maybe not too far away, you'll be showing your grandkids your old car and they'll exclaim "Grampa, that runs on gasoline?!!".

Couldn't help but think of the old RUSH song about exactly that... Red Barchetta

" My uncle has a country place no one knows about it used to be a farm before the motor Laws, down in his barn my uncle preserved for me an old machine for 50 odd years...hides a shiny car...

I think Elon is is on the right track, as are many vehicle manufacturers, with many new hybrids/ electric rigs by 2023

but also don't want any "motor laws" to where a muscle car from back in the day needs to be hidden or driven illegally to enjoy it.

Not to change the subject or lower the temperature of this thread Dan, but I’ll see your Red Barchetta and raise you one great Rush intro.

Boom!

You keep putting those numbers out there, but no proof. With links proving the answer, what percentage are actually today, being charged with pure wind, water or solar. And those that are, what is the carbon history of those generation systems? I mean they all are manufactured from something in a plant somewhere, etc...

So is coal burning plant, the machines in coal mine, the gas plant processing raw NG into "consumer" NG, the pipelines, compressor stations etc. I don't have the numbers but it seem to me that to manufacture 1 GW capacity in solar panels takes less material and energy than building a 1 GW power plant together with associated coal mine and transportation infrastructure.

Of note; a solar powered aircraft has circumvented the world. Things are happening!

I laughed so hard when I read they have bikes that charge the battery's on the subs. I thought, what a giant leap backwards...

Then I realized you were dead serious.

News this morning is, Tesla will move car building to China. Wow, who will buy Chinese cars?

According to google a trained athlete can produce .3 hp for a couple hours. A submarine crew is a little over 100. Let's pretend that the submarine crew can produce 1/2 hp each and they can get 50 men peddling continually. So that's nearly enough power for a lawn mower and a couple thousand hp short for a submarine.

So Tesla is getting US government subsidy's and then they will build in China for the China market.

So we just subsidized the China car market with technology and get nothing in return.

Just great.

Then that makes one ask the question...do the Ruskies want navy officers or athletes manning the subs. The Ruskies would have to give out Meth like candy if there was an actual situation where full power was needed.
