Even when I was a production welder; never wore a leather jacket. If doing a lot of overhead I used a cape and sleeves. Never could stand the gauntlet gloves either. Due to safety requirements we issued jackets to all welders, within 1/2 day they were all piled in the corner. Now for my incidental work I use a cotton flannel shirt, jeans, and drivers gloves. Guys I knew used to were cotton jersey gloves so they could feel things. I think full leather is a waste of $. Will buy a lot of shirts and jeans. I had one welder in the crew that wore a cotton undershirt only when working inside. Looked like well bubbled swiss cheese and his body had lots of burn specks.
