Snobs moving to the country

I drive through the side streets of one of the worst neighborhoods in our state twice a day. As bad as it is, if you pull over to let an opposing car through, 9 out of 10 will give you a friendly wave. If you get out of your car, they'll shoot you, but stay in, and you get a friendly wave.

Is that the "friendly" wave of a nine?

Folks, leave the politics out of it or the thread will be closed... now back to snobs, please. :)

Division is division, why limit it?

As I've skimmed through the thread, I'm shaking my head at all the "us" vs "them" posts. "City snobs", "elite liberals", it's a bunch of name calling on a playground. "They didn't wave, so I left them stuck in the ditch". What a lovely lifestyle country living is. Y'all need to take a good long look in the mirror.

My experience has been that most people will treat you the way you treat them. As for waving, we live on a place that has been in the family since 1883 And I don't always wave.

Eh, chalk me up to the "friendly, no matter what" crowd. I'll help out anybody, anytime, anywhere. Blow past me on a snow covered road and end up in the ditch, I'll still stop and make sure you're alright. I'll even make sure your car is ok before I pull you out of the ditch. Whatever, it takes all types of people and I like to think that maybe all some people need is a kind gesture. Perhaps it'll change their way of thinking for next time. If not, no worries, I enjoy helping people so it's all good in my 'hood.

Back to your regularly scheduled program.

Good thread. Same experience here. But with more and more people inhabiting the area, who can keep track of who drives what? And to wave at everyone without knowing who they are, might get people to wonder if you're not all there. I'm not all there anyway (by conventional standards) , but that's another story.

So many people in the urban areas speed up when they see your indicator wanting to get into their lane. Do you really want to be waving at these people?

My company has a policy that IF you get caught giving someone the bird you are fired instantly (something about image). So whenever I wave at the person that sped up on me, I give them the whole bouquet all 4 fingers backwards ( the same way as if you are giving the the single finger).

Also on the indicator, that is a statement, not a request. It is a warning that I am moving over, period.

Closed? It ought to be deleted.

Human tendency to be divisive. We search for divisions even if they're not really there. People will argue about ANYTHING! Not just religion, race and politics. (...Green is better than orange!)
Ever notice that when people meet strangers, one of the first questions is "Where are you from?", then they will search for and talk about the slightest differences (What food they eat, or phrases they use, anything..)

Like the Emo Phillips joke:

Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"

He said, "Yes." I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?" He said, "A Christian." I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me, too! What franchise?" He said, "Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?" He said, "Northern Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"

He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!"

Northern Conservative?aptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912." I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.

This summer we started our first building on our place in NE Tennessee (and hope to be living there by next summer). I made a run to the lumber yard to get some wood and rebar for the footings. I was almost back, and well off the main roads, when I noticed that the load in the trailer had shifted a bit. I stopped at the side of the road to get it back in shape. In the 10 minutes I was rebuilding the load 4 cars came by (I hadn't seen 4 cars on that road in a week). Every one of them stopped and the driver offered to help.

At home I would have expected that most, if they stopped at all, would have pointed out that I was blocking part of the lane and then continued on their way.

Encouraging to be moving to a place where the good neighbor bar seems to be set pretty high.
