How many miles on your vehicle before sell or trade?

For you folks with over 250k miles on your vehicles, do you end up replacing the drivers seat cushion, fabric, knobs, switches, headlight lenses, etc? I’ve never kept a vehicle beyond 170k mi (yet) but those are the items that I notice starting to wear after about 100k (particularly on my 07 Silverado). Don’t all of the interior plastic panels etc. rattle, crack or otherwise decay?

My Silverado had 228,000 on it when I sold it. It was a rust bucket otherwise it would have been a pretty good truck. I had to put a door lock switch, water pump, radiator, wheel bearing, and a window motor over the 2 years I owned it. Seat was worn out but I could live with that. Cloth seats hold up better IME, and mine were cloth. I've seen a lot of GM trucks with over 300k and several dozen with over 400k. I know of 3 that have over 500k.

Nice, if I can go 300K on my Chevy Duramax 2500 and she still looks good, I will do it by golly! My mom and dad always did growing up. My truck sleeps in a comfy garage that stays about 60 degrees all year. The HVAC air handler is in my garage...it is also in the basement so perfect conditions in there for it for sleeping. I'm going to let it roll. I still get comments all the time on my bone stock 10 year old duramax. Kids drool over it because it is an older diesel that has not been molested. For some reason diesel pickups are all the rage for the kids around here so the older and more miles mine gets, the more marketable it is in my community.

On my last truck, a ‘94 F150, I had the bench seat reupholstered with new foam at about 130k mi. Dash was cracked on the passengers side and it rattled because one of the plastic mounting tabs broke off. Vinyl floor had some tears in it due to dry rot and wear.

i have had mine recovered twice in 320K as for the minor things breaking taken care of them maintain them and replace when needed. mine lives in the garage and i use the windshield cover which saves on sun damage. i also go over it every once in a while to tighten any bolts/screws that have loosened

So, Mr. Kentucky "accountant"... what I chose to do works very well for me. I have never lost money on my trucks, to the contrary... my truck makes me money, a lot of money. It is a "tool". My wife's truck, not so much, as it is not a write off. Haven't really thought about it's cost. So why not make her happy once every three years...:D

Not a accountant. Don't cuss at me like that. It's not nice.

If your truck makes you money, lots of money you've got to be writing off something associated with it. If not maybe you should. Unless your running moonshine or drugs. And if you can afford to spend on new all the power in the world to you. I'm just not going to buy a new truck and as soon as the wheel hits the road in front of the dealership it looses 20 percent of it value. Not saying I haven't bought new in my life too but everything I bought new cost a lot more per mile I drove it then the used stuff I got. I'm sure that probably works the opposite for some folks out there that drive a hundred thousand miles a year but not me. And new trucks sure aren't cheap. Say 60 grand for a decent one, what's the payments on it a month, and how many years. Say 6 or 7 hundred a month. I haven't made a car/truck payment for over 30 years. Haven't bought a car or truck in over 10 years but when I did it was cash. No interest here. I would rather spend my money on something that wil increase in value over time than decrease in value. Just think the junkyards are full of 50, 60 thousand dollar cars and trucks.

I try to keep the wife driving a truck with less than 100,000 miles just for the sake of reliability. She pulls the GN horse trailer by herself so it makes her and I feel better. Traded in my 2003 GMC 2500HD Duramax with 214,000 miles that I was driving for the 2017. The wife get's the new truck, I get the old truck. The 08 GMC 2500HD that I now drive has 140,000 miles on it.

Two factors played into the decision to buy a new truck, maintenance costs and trade-in value. Maintenance issues were starting to pop up on our 03 as well as it was going to need new brakes soon. While at the dealership getting the fuse box replaced I happened to see a 2017 equipped like I wanted sitting on the lot. The dealer offered me $10,000 for the 03, $3,000 more than the year before when I was looking at a 2016. I drove the 2017 home after taking it for a test drive to show it to my wife.

First car was a 1991 Chevy Camaro. Sold it at 235,000 miles. Bought a 2001 Chevy Cavalier. Traded it in at 225,000 miles. Bought a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer, has 111,000 miles, will keep it until I can replace it with a pickup, use it for towing tractor and snow duty. Daily driver is a 2014 Chevy Malibu with 77,000 miles. I plan on at least 200,000 miles from a Chevy with regular maintenance. Never had to replace an engine or transmission, but minor stuff like water pumps, alternators etc go at 150,000 or so.

I am wondering who buys vehicles with 200K or more miles on them. I certainly wouldn't. Lots of folks trade in at 100K and get a good price for the vehicle, 200K likely not so much. So what happens to those 200-300K vehicles when you trade them in?

I recently bought a 2006 Honda Ridgeline with 210,000 miles for $3000. It drives so good that I've decided to sell my 2016 Toyota Avalon so that I won't have a car payment. I can put that towards a new tractor.

My lawn mower is worth more than my truck, haha.

DAILY DRIVER> 95' Ford Bronco Eddie Bauer edition 5.8L 375K on the odometer.. I bought it w/ 102k showing. & drive it 100 miles aday..
Gets 14.8miles per gallon religiously at 70-75 mph..
Nothing but 3000 mile oil changes, battery & a water pump I didn't need, a radiator & an alternator.
Last week it "smoked" the instrument cluster.. only gonna take 100.00 to repair tho, AND IS STILL DRIVABLE..
TRY THAT w/ a new $60K truck.!!! Lol
Have NO PLANS on EVER selling it..

...we bought a ML 350 new in I think 2007.... God I hated that thing.. Complete POS... More dashboard lights came on than they put on the Christmas tree in Time Square.

Yeah, we had a couple of those Mercedes ML320 Sport utility vehicles when they first came out. Wonderful technology, way ahead of its time, but lots of little problems. Got rid of them for a new 2003 Toyota 4runner limited. Best vehicle we ever had. Then went to Honda Pilot. Now the best vehicle we ever had! On our second one. Seven years old and still going strong. Will probably drive it into the ground.

I must be in the minority... my 1997 Chevy Silverado step-side already has 129,000 miles on it. Owned it since new. Sadly, it has never been inside of a garage or cover parking area. Good maintenance and an occasional coat of wax has kept it looking good though, and it still gets >20mpg on the highway. Not shabby for a 350cid. But at this rate, it'll only last another 20 years!

That's not typical of my earlier years. I've owned over 75 cars & trucks over the years. yeah, that's a bunch, but when you're in those 'every 2 year trade' age, and sometimes owned as many a 6 at a time, you can burn lots of paychecks.
