The mid PTO probably comes as an option.

For a backhoe try for or make a bolt on frame.

Save the money you'd spend on the backhoe and rent a mini ex when you need it. A three point backhoe puts a lot of stress on the rear end of a tractor. Plus, a three point backhoe on a machine that size won't be very impressive anyway. Just my .02.

Exactly correct!
A 3pt. backhoe on a machine that size is simply a cute toy.

I had a jd 770 older model then the 790 with a#7 backhoe frame mounted, bought it new the dealer said not to get 3 point hitch backhoe they break the top link
like fred1765 said its a toy

Toy or for real! All depends on what is being done and what is required to do the job.

Some might call any rubber mounted hoe a toy if they are thinking of one of the larger tracked hoes.

It's all in context.

I used a 3 pt backhoe for years. Mounted it on everything from our little 16hp Yanmar to the much larger John Deere. It was very useful....also very dangerous and capable of over-stressing the back of the machines. But if you can find one used at a good price, why not go for it? They are very negotiable. Easy to get your money back. Get as small a backhoe as you can find. The 790 simply cannot handle anything larger and you want to avoid big repairs. But used with care, they will do a lot of work for you.

What make is the hoe? We can work on this, and I can point out some things to look for on the hoe. But first, I don't understand how the backhoe is associated with a mid PTO. About the only thing a mid PTO is used for is to drive a belly mower. Other types of mowers - and things like PTO pumps for backhoes - are driven by the rear PTO. The JD790 is basically a re-badged Yanmar, and all of those have rear PTOs.
Luck, rScotty
Mid PTO doesn't really matter for this, guess I was just thinking about it. I guess what I really need to know is whether or not the backhoe uses the rear PTO and a hydraulic pump on it, or if it hooks into the tractors Hydraulics. If it hooks into the tractors Hydraulics I don't know where that goes. As far as use, it will just be for digging some foundations 12 in wide by 18 in deep, and some electrical trenching. We aren't talking heavy duty here.

Post pictures of the hoe. If the backhoe doesn't have a pump hanging from it and a reservoir full of oil, then it is set up to use the tractor hydraulics. For that you'll either need a power beyond kit or create your own.

I'm sure there have been a lot of tractors damaged with 3pt hoes. But I did use mine for ten years or so without any problems. And then my buddy used it for another ten. And it wasn't new when I got it. That hoe sure was handy for a lot of chores. Mine was a smallish hoe - the model was the YBH600 made by Yanmar - and was designed for tractors in the 18 to 30 hp range.
I used it on our 16 and 30 hp compact tractors and also on our Ag tractor. We ended up using it mostly on our rather large and heavy Ag tractor - which is a JD530. Putting the hoe on the JD required $20 worth of adapter bushings to fit the 530's Category II 3pt hitch.

Surprised me how even that small hoe could bounce that heavy tractor around - but I doubt that the hoe could hurt the JD.

It did nearly hurt me though. I knew better, but one day I forgot to disconnect the automatic draft control on the tractor before using the 3pt backhoe. While I was digging around a stump the automatic draft control kicked in and I just barely bailed out sideways before the backhoe controls impaled me against the rear of the tractor. Felt real stupid. My local JD dealer has a warning poster right by the cash register commemorating a local who was killed in just that fashion. Draft control and 3 pt hoes are one dangerous combination. Been lots of accidents. But that doesn't mean not to use those hoes. Just be aware.

rScotty you beat me. I was just about to warn the OP about reported rear end damages caused by 3Pt back hoes.

Can't help on anything else since I don't know the tractor. The only thing that caught my eye are the low hours.
Thanks for the heads up I think the consensus is it will work but don't use it for anything crazy and just pay attention to your machine and make sure that it sounds right and seems right.

Got it, it's the only picture I have. 1515342249040.jpg

Can't tell anything from that picture other than it looks home made.
