Block heater trips breaker

I don't believe you can swap out a lower radiator heater fast enough not to dump the entire radiator and the upper portion of the block.
drain the radiator and install taking your time, why hurry and screw up.

X2, do it slow and do it right. Refill and use the tractor for 30 mins or so. Moving the tractor around and varying engine speeds will burp the air out.

Technically, since your heater is in the hose, it is called a "coolant heater" and not a "block heater".

Thanks. I don't mind draining the coolant but it also may be just as easy to clamp off the hoses - they're soft and about a foot long each, so if I clamp them near the pump, the leakage should be minimal. Any reason not to do this?

If possible, I would warm up the tractor good (if it will start) to make everything more pliable and easy to work with.

Is this a lower radiator hose heater or a tank heater?
Tank heater would have a couple of heater hose sized hoses one in and one out, that style you could just clamp the hose closed on.

Do not start your engine with the heater plugged in . causes it to burn out ( hot spots on the element )

As long as the hoses are soft and pliable and in good shape it shouldn't hurt anything. Just top off the radiator when your done.
