We mostly thaw in the fridge. If needed sooner, we thaw in the sink with cold water. As far as meals go...we get three days out of our main meal. Slow cookers are also a God send, no muss, no fuss.

That reminded me to get a pork loin roast out of the freezer. We're crock-potting it tomorrow for pulled pork sandwiches for dinner. :licking:

That should last at least 3 days! Sounds tasty.

Another Public Service Announcement: Don't put off your medical tests.
Repeat: DON'T PUT OFF YOUR MEDICAL TESTS.

Being 42, I was not too worried and saw a Dr about every 3-4 years, and only if I was injured. Well last March I was logging and cut through a spring pole and ended up taking a chainsaw to the forehead. I made it out of the woods alive, but spent four days recovering in the hospital, and it was there that CAT and MRI's for concussion from the chainsaw accident showed I had tumors on my pituitary gland and thyroid. They did biopsies which came back negative, but because they were so big they were removed, that was when they found they had cancer all through them.

Now I am in a quandary, had they known before surgery they would have taken a lot more of the offending parts out. Now I have to wait and see, but tests seem to be showing it is spreading to my liver. I got a battery of tests I have to do today.

The moral of the story is, had I not been in my logging accident, I would have never known I had cancer.

It is hard to know...

I see a lot of patients whose entire life seems to revolve around Dr. Appointments just to make sure...

Of these, it is mostly women that stay on top of things and of the men... many are there because of their wife.

My Grandfather had never seen a Doctor or Hospital until his late 80's... even his reading glasses were over the counter.

He had a bad accident with a log splitter... lost 3 fingers.

While at the Hospital they noticed an irregular Heart Beat and wanted to put in a pace maker...

He flatly refused... lived another 6 years still working around the farm before he passed from his heart condition.

He was very religious as most of the farmers from that era... said when his time is up it is up.

Being 87 and never seeing a Doctor and then only because of a farm accident... he also delivered several of the kids because the snow made the roads impassable... said it was better to deliver at home than stranded on the road in a blizzard.

Something to be said living life on your own terms.

Like his contemporaries... he never retired.

So he made it past 90 without the pacemaker? Pretty good I say.

I had two great uncles who died in their early 90’s and one had never been to a doctor or ever took more than an aspirin. The other only minor stuff. Both had most of their teeth. So many people at their time had gotten false teeth.

My granny lived to 94 without any serious illness. Her sister made it several months past 100.

My dad is almost 94, dr told him he has irregular heartbeat. He told the dr that he was told that when he joined the army in 1941.

I think the pioneer stock is the key... simple, honest live... lots of work but not modern day stress.

Everyday, the meal was at 11 am and after Grandfather would take a 30 minute nap and that back to work... dairy farms are 7 day a week operations... maybe it was the nap... also no meds... not even aspirin... that summer I stayed with them I had my vitamins... he wanted to know what was going on... popping pills.
