No overhead light, switched outlet was the norm in the 70s. At least in tract homes.

Well, my home sits on 10 acres in the middle of nowhere so I don't think it's a tract home. Luckily I was able to fish wiring from the upstairs outlets to the living, dining and 1st floor master and install remote controlled ceiling fans. I have done away with all the switched outlets. The other thing that is weird is the lack of switches. 1 switch in the dining room with 2 entrances, stupid. 1 switch in the kitchen clear across the room from the garage entrance. Just ridiculous crap like that.

Just gotta say that this has been a fun topic! Looking at the list I have to say that nobody is hurting anybody. I gotta go now because for the first time in my life I never realized that the outlet/switch cover plate screws are supposed to be vertical. I have about 500 things to look at and fix...on second thought, I'll let the next owner deal with it.

Does anybody else make little "P-Touch" labels for multi-gang switch plates?

Yes, I have used labels when we rented a home out down south so to help the weekly renters.

Anyone, well I'm sure MossRoad has.. put labels on your main electrical panel?

I even laminated a how to sheet when we lose power and have to switch over to our portable genny so if the wife or her next husband has to do it when I'm away. On second thought, how do I rig that up so he becomes impotent?

Had that in my last house. It is minimum code.

I wired my existing house, i put ceiling fan with switched light in every room.
