My Industrial Cabin Build

My basement slab was poured in jan, probably not this cold, but they used some calcium chloride, and it came out fine. I built in winter of 97, fortunately was a milder winter, but i remember some brutal cold nights.

The weather has been terrible. We have had a lot of rain and some snow and bitter cold. The ground has been frozen for 8 inches. There has been so much moisture in the ground some nights, that ice crystals form up out of the ground about 3 inches tall. When the sun comes out during the day, the soil warms and has the consistency of peanut butter for about an inch, on top of the frozen ground below. I have avoided any work in the fields because I don't want to tear them up.
There are some points that need to be reenforced in the foundation to support the post and beam above and because the ground has been frozen, my cement guy doesn't want to do it until the ground thaws. Today it is finally warmed up. It's 50 degrees right now, but the ground is still frozen hard, but softening. Hoping that they will be able to get up here this week to get at it.
The septic started a few weeks ago, and they have both tanks in the ground and are working on the drainfield, this morning. I was glad to hear them show up here this morning (Saturday) to make up for some of the days that they couldn't do anything over the last few weeks.

Good to hear that you are still making progress. It doesn't get that cold here, but it's cold enough that pretty much nothing gets done all winter long at my place.

This is one crazy winter for weather. So far it hasn't got that cold here, either. And we are in the Colorado mountains at 7000 feet. Yesterday was typical...low 40/50s, no snow in the air or on the ground. The weathergal says we are in for a cold spell - mid 30s, maybe cooler.

My sons both live out there. One at about 8k. They're getting a kick out of the fact that it's been colder here in Georgia than there. Sounds like y'all are going to have a dry summer.

Hopefully you made some progress this week.

The second stage tank was a peculiar thing, the likes of which I have not seen before. A standard cement septic tank is used, but then the water /slurry runoff goes into the fiberglass tank which pumps air into the bottom of it and also has a screw that turns the mixture and somehow, this is supposed to clean and purify it

As shown here, they had gotten the cement tank in place...this was all closer to the house than I thought so I have had to make some changes to driveway plans.

everything is dug and measured with a lazer level....I am glad I did not try to take this piece of the build on myself. There is far to much about this that I don't know and don't want to spend time learning. Having professionals get in there and do it made a lot of sense, but was very expensive.

The waste lines have been tied in to the septic system. The inspection has been performed and the septic field has been covered up again. I put up an erosion fence around the tanks so that no one will drive over them while we are building, and once the house is built, we will put up a couple of decorative fences to keep the area clear of vehicles.
