Backhoe BH92 Backhoe on my L4240

I do have the Kubota 3rd function on my current machine.
I use my backhoe mostly for digging out rocks, stumps, minor excavating, short trenching for culverts or ditch, cleaning out drainage catchments, and as ballast for heavy FEL lifts.
I have pulled out rocks far heavier than the BH can lift, and a few even heavier than the FEL can lift. (Ramp and push). This isn't the tool you'd want to do that all day, but for occasional use it is great, and it is a long way for me to rent stuff.

No doubt you could rip out a concrete sidewalk or asphalt driveway. Big slab of concrete probably not.
When I say slow it is because there is no creep mode. You have to get off and switch seats to reposition. That's tough on a long trench, but maybe you recruit a helper.

Ok cool, did you, or do you have a third function up front for loader attachments? Does this plumbing kit work with it?

Obviously I壇 like to use a hoe with my front grapple. Dig something out, spin around and use the grapple.

Also, I agree a mini would be stronger and faster. With that said, is this unit so slow it痴 painful to use? Or is it still really productive?

I think I知 at the realization that a mini doesn稚 make sense for me. I already have the tractor and can bring multiple implements to complete an entire job as appose to a mini I would just be doing one part of a job. Also, I壇 really have to be conscious what mini to get to stay within weight limitations. If I was a full time digger, I壇 be upgrading the entire fleet of machines etc. trucks, trailers .....

I just like to hear that this is a capable hoe to accomplish things with.

Now, I don稚 do this, but am also curious. Would this be strong enough to rip out say a sidewalk? Driveway?. I see lots of people doing stumps with various times.

I知 just looking for good tasks this hoe can be used for efficiently

I use a BH92 on both my L6060 and MX5800. I have 3rd function valves installed on both tractors and they function normally with the hoe installed. Be aware that using rear remotes with the BH on can damage the BH control valve. Disconnect the BH hydraulics before using the rear remotes. You don't have to physically remove the hoe.

I find the BH92 to be a bit slow but it has enough strength to rip up sidewalk slabs that don't contain rebar. I routinely remove 2' diameter boulders from excavations. I once removed a 3" thick blactop driveway apron with no problem. You'll have to dig around a large stump first to remove it. I have a manual thumb on mine but I recommend the hydraulic option if you plan to use the hoe to remove large objects from excavations.

Select the proper bucket width for the type of soil you will be working with. Wider buckets move soft soil faster but they can bog down in hardpan or heavily rooted soil. I have both 12" and 18" buckets but I can get work done faster with the 12" in the tough ground around here. If you work in heavily rooted soil, you might consider a single tooth root ripper. If I had it to do over again, I would get the QA bucket option which lets you quickly change buckets.

Just got home with mine yesterday... I did go for the quick attach just for that reason. Right now, I have a 16" bucket but will add more later...pretty stoked!

You guys are a wealth of knowledge and that is a beautiful hoe. I’m very jealous.

I have read that about it using the rear remotes while the hoe is connected. I would have no reason to but that is good info. Just as long as I can continue to use the from third function while how is connected.

I have a concrete guy that I may be able to do a few tear outs for here and there.

How much more is quick connect? I think I would do that. And on average, how much are the different size buckets and the tooth?

I bought the BH92 with options in a package deal with the tractor. It seems to me the 12" bucket was around $500 but I'm not sure. The 16", 3 tooth bucket you have is a good compromise between the 12", 3 tooth and 18" 4 tooth buckets.

I have no idea what the QA bracket or QA buckets cost. Ebay is a good place to try. I bought the 18" bucket used on eBay for $450 a couple of years ago. There are also a few aftermarket suppliers around. You can try a Google search. Your dealer is always an option but you'll pay top $$.

I have the 16" 3 tooth bucket, it is a good fit with the hydraulic thumb. I'd like a ripper tooth but never sprung for one.

Would you guys just recommend just going all out from the beginning and buy hydraulic thumb, ripper tooth right away from the dealer. Or wait ?

The reason I say this is financing you can make a few payments. Or wait and buy things as needed

I am thinking, hydraulic thumb, 16” 3 tooth bucket and ripper tooth all quick attach. After that, add buckets as needed
