Ruger or Glock

40 yrs as an LEO - first 20 yrs I carried a S&W, second 20 I carried a Glock. Glock is my preferred brand pistol as we put them through all kinds of wear and tear - got them wet (marine patrol) and they always worked. I was also a Glock trained armorer so I know the pistol inside and out. My life depended on my Glock and I always knew I could rely on it. I carried a Glock 38 (45GAP) off duty but when I retired I wanted something that I could conceal in a pocket holster or ISW holster comfortably. I had a Ruger LCP but I don't like the 380. My minimum caliber that I would feel comfortable with is the 9mm (still prefer the 45GAP though!). I did a lot of research and I ended up buying a Kahr CM9. It's 9mm, single stack, internal safety, some people call it the gun that Glock should have built. It's as close to a Glock without being a Glock that you'll find. I didn't like the stainless steel slide with the black lower frame so I had mine Cerakoted in black.

Mine is flawless no matter what type of 9mm I put through it. Everything from reloads to Speer Gold Dot. I carry it in a Recluse pocket holster. It looks like I'm carrying my wallet or a large smart phone in my pocket. The photo shows the extended magazine floorplate. When I'm carrying it I use a magazine without the baseplate extension. Since I bought it my Glock is in the nightstand pistol locker if needed.

I love my S&W M&P Shield, I'd give one of them a try if you can get your hands on one.

That being said, the LC9s is also a sweet gun, just stay away from the LC9, trigger pull makes the LCP look like a hair trigger haha.

Double action, no safety, single stack, 9mm are my criteria. I have a great shooting 9mm in the Kahr CT9 but there are no accessories available. The only holster I have for it is a clip on the belt outside the pants type. This weapon and holster MUST be completely concealable The Ruger and the Glock are the two most commonly sold single stack 9mm subcompact pistols. The Glock has a great reputation and I have had great reliability with the three other Ruger products I own. Also price will play a big part. This is for a specific purpose one morning a week.

I am not interested in other brands or calibers.

You are the safety if you finger is not on the trigger it wont go off

I have the Kahr CT9. It is a sweet shooting trouble free pistol. With the exception that I must be very careful inserting full mags or the top shell will get out of place and not load. I think that when the springs wear a little this problem will disappear. I just need a good, concealable holster. Preferably a cross draw for use while sitting. I cannot find one that fits it correctly. If I could find that holster I would definitely keep the Kahr. But since I cannot I must look at a different weapon.

Another recommendation for the Shield. If you have a range local to you that rents, try them all. One will speak to you. I own a couple dozen handguns, and shoot everything I own. I started carrying in 1980, and still have ten guns on my CCW. Glocks, 1911s, a S&W .38 Airweight - and I carry the Shield 95% of the time. My wife carries it's twin. Both are free-state models, off roster in CA, and cost us a considerable premium to acquire legally here - and worth every penny. We shoot the snot out of them regularly, and both have been 100% dependable. My previous EDC was a Glock 26, and I still enjoy shooting it, but the Shield just carries better - much better. It's often on my ankle, especially when a jacket or untucked shirt is not appropriate.

I carry a Walther PPS in 40S&W. But it is available in 9mm. With mags from 5 to 8 rds it's super configurable, tiny and has every imaginable holster. I shoot it as well as a custom 1911 combat commander I carry in the winter when a bigger pistol is not as much trouble. I have a Glock in 10mm and really like it. But it gives me no "wants" to get a Glock carry pistol. Worth a look. Incredibly accurate too. Only thing better is the 1911 and a H&K 45 tactical which is the most accurate out of the box forearm I've ever bought.

It depends on the person if you feel better with a safety then buy that one.They make some of the same models with or without you choose what you want to carry .
