$1400 from a company local to me, requires 8-20 gpm:

Lowe 75 Hex Classic Auger Unit - Skid Steer Attachment Depot

If I had known then what I know now, I would have skipped the 3ph post hole augur for ~$700 and bought this for my super rocky soil. Far easier to mount and dismount, better vision while working and provides down pressure.

I might have to check that one out. Bought my pallet forks from those guys. Good buying experience, great price, and great forks.

unfortunately it is right above my tractors 7.8 gpm... About half of your tractors.
I will at least call them and see what they have to say. It is rated up to 24, so maybe i could get away with running a 9, or 12". The price is nice.

i wonder if i could modify or change my hydro pump to a larger one without too much other modification?

Quit worrying about the pump. Just connect the lines and use the auger .

Thankyou Buick, I would like to but it is below their suggested GPM, as someone relatively new to hydraulics, I'll assume the suggestion for a min GPM is there for a reason. I just don't want to drop cash on something that will suck, even if it is at least for now till i can augment further. If i cannot afford this setup to work well within my budget, i'll wait and shift my resources to other projects for now. I am trying to prioritize all my projects and budget before things thaw, so i can plan what i can get done before next winter. What is your personal experience with these of an FEL at a similar GPM to 7.8?

Looks like Lowe would be cheaper than LandPride. Can anyone else comment on their experience with this company?

i called those folks, they said it should work ok with my GPM...
I called my land pride dealer too for more quotes, waiting to hear back with specifics.
I wonder if something planetary like the sa20 is better than the other style ( i do not know the nomenclature for those, but it is 2 gears opposed at 90 degrees) like the hd25 and hd35. Additionally i do not know what style the "lowe" 750 classic is.

The Lowe is a chain drive, two sprockets not gears with a roller chain, many in use.

Lower gpm just means the augur turns slower . A post hole digger is dangerous enough at the best of times. The higher the rpms, the faster a minor problem becomes a major problem.
Now if the hydraulic pressure is too low, the augur motor will make less torque and would be more likely to stall on a minor obstruction.

What is your personal experience with these on an FEL, at a GPM close to 7.8? Have they been enough to not stall on a small obstruction?

My tractor flows up to 13gpm, never had it above 1/2 throttle to dig holes.
100gpm doesn't mean anything if the pressure has a maximum of 500psi. It is hydraulic pressure that forces the augur through the root or lifts a stone.
