does anyone know where the cheapest place to buy chain saw chains. I have been buying from the Stihl dealership but I would think I could buy them somewhere cheaper but I have been unable to find them.

Thanks

There are differences in the quality of chains. Stihl generally seems harder, lasts longer between good sharpenings but harder to sharpen.

But I bought a lot of Woodland Pro at Bailey's about 2009, 2010 for about 20 cents a link.

Amazon- the place to buy cheap stuff. Although it’s hard to argue with the logic above.
Do you have a good sharpener? If that’s patronizing sorry. I cut a lot for a homeowner with firewood and general property cleanup and I’ve had the same few chains that I rotate for several years. But my sharpener doesn’t take a lot off.

I just use a file to touch up after every use. I have three chains that I rotate but I cut a lot of trees down as I am trying to clear our land . I cut about 6-7 8" -12" trees down every week.

Buy one with a dirty carb from an idiot who knows nothing about engines that thinks it'll never run again

I've found complete chain saws for $5, the off chain if it fits your good saw, sell it $30 and repeat

Another vote for Baileys online. Wait for the 10 chains for $100 deals. Jim

I buy my Oregon chains online at Amicks Superstore. $13 vs $16 for Amazon. I stock up and buy 8 at a time. Local shop charges $12 to sharpen chains. I'd just buy new ones if I didn't sharpen them myself.

$12 to sharpen a chain? Must have an add referenced in the Saw Chain Sharpening for Dummys book.

I've used Baileys, especially when they have their 10 chains for $100 deal. Frawley's saw shop also have good prices on Oregon chain.

I've had good luck with Madsen's.

Madsens is awesome. Great people to do business with.

Left Coast Supplies is great too. Call them for the best shipping price. Their online calculator doesn't work the best.

I got three Stihl OEM chains for the same price as two at my local dealer from EBAY not too long ago. Free shipping too!

That's the price at my local Stihl dealer. Welcome to CT!

I have used Baileys and also Cutterschoice.com , sale prices are often good but shipping can be expensive depending on what you buy.

I've been using Forester chains and bars for at least 5 years. I have good luck with them. I've purchased Stihl chains now and again when I am in a pinch, I really don't see the increased service life that I have seen folks talk about when comparing to 3rd party chains. They all need hit with a file every few hours or so of actual cutting time to restore that razors edge.

For a while I was buying two packs of Oregon or another name brand chains at wally world for $18...didn't see them last year but they did have chinese chains for $7 each...at that price they are worth hand sharpening a few times then trashed...
