Coyote machine seeing it has been over 6 months since you bought your Mechron can you tell the pros and cons of this machine. I am sort of working on a deal with my dealer on a 2017 Mechron 2200 PS with Field cab/ snow plow. I have read lot of good stuff on them.
Thanks
Gilles
Hi. I haven't used it a lot since I got it, and I'm away from home three months during the winter, So I don't use it then. I have used it to load and tow various things and it has worked well. I like the tires that came on it. I don't have a windshield, but did get the chassis skid plate and headrest kit and rear metal mesh screen from my selling dealer. The screen make sit somewhat difficult to see behind the 4 by, but does keep things from flying toward your head if you slam on the brakes.
I like that it's diesel, do find the shifter to be somewhat awkward, and find when I try to back it up, when cold started, it tends to 'jerk'. I can't sit and let it warm up inside my garage bay because the diesel fumes are not compatible with me breathing air. I'm not saying it plumes smoke, it doesn't, I'm saying I need to back out of the bay as soon as it's running and then let it warm up. At times I find the CVT trans to be less than desirable as far as it's moving from a dead stop. Once it's warmed to OP temp, it seems to be fine. It is quiet for a diesel, has adequate power, goes fast enough to run my dirt road when I need to move between properties. I haven't yet added a lot of aftermarket things to it except two adjustable side mirrors I mounted on the ROPS, which helps me see behind me for any vehicles on my road, when I turn to enter my adjacent property. I don't have a turn signal kit or horn installed, or hazard lights, or windscreen or any type of cab.
I like it's ground clearance, BUT don't really like the amount of legroom, not quite enough to comfortably access the pedals. 4 x 4 works OK and same with Diff lock. Brakes going down steep hills with heavy load in back are at times a little scary, but I mitigate that by taking it slow down my driveway. The CVT trans is part of the braking, so going to low can help slow momentum. I usually don't do this because I want to get point A to B quickly, so it's a balance. Just beware it's not like car brakes for sure.
I bought mine as a dealer left over for a couple of K off imaginary list price. When I look at what others pay for more decked out similar machines I really feel this unit is a great deal. I will probably put a front end winch on it. I already came with a front grill bar which allows to install a winch OR to install a front end receiver hitch and add a 'portable' winch which could be inserted in either front or back receiver.
One thing I don't really like is the way the tailgate drops down below level for emptying the cargo bed.
The latching on either side is OK, but I would like the gate to stop at level instead of somewhere below level. I guess their thinking is it will effect less wear on the gate when dumping a load? The dump by hand mechanism is difficult to work with in my experience. If one has a load of anything they want to dump on the ground, they need to release the latch on the driver's side, then tilt the bed to make it dump. That might be difficult to near impossible depending on the load weight and position of the UTE. It could even require two people to work from each side to lift the bed far enough that it will then self dump the load at the point of 'tipping'. The bed lowers with hydraulic piston assist, but the release mechanism to get the bed to start decent is awkwardly located and IMO, somewhat of a PITA. The handbrake is a PITA for getting in or out of the UTE, at least for me. I'd like it to come with a hand brake light built into the std equipment, not as an ad on, with I guess the turn/horn kit too. I do NOT like where the instrument cluster is located, it's way over to the right side of the dash and makes keeping an eye on crucial gauges difficult.
Servicing from under the bench seat seems relatively easy, but I haven't enough hours on it yet to worry about any servicing. Would be nice if the oil dipstick was accessible without having to remove the under seat vertical panel, though it could be more difficult if they tried hard enough! I like that without a hitch inserted in the rear receiver that it keeps one from breaking their shins, and if I'm not mistaken I seem to remember that might still be the case even with the hitch attached...
I would appreciate what you can link me to as to other's reviews on this machine.
You can PM me the links if so inclined.
Any other questions PM me or ask me here.
I'm really surprised there aren't more on here at TBN, discussing these UTEs?!
Hope this helped you decide what to do...
If you plan to do a lot of dumping it may be worthwhile to get the pricy electric?/hydraulic assist.
I like that the Mechron is a Kioti 'creation'. That equates to a good value for my investment, and hopefully means I won't be repairing it; instead I'll be using it.
My main use to date is the convenience of it being a 'carryall' and a good tower of things for projects around my properties that my DK-40 tractor isn't as suited to. And my wife can and does drive it around while I'm doing real man chores with the big dog!
