To me, a ridiculously large 5th wheel camper parked beside a house or elsewhere looks a hundred times worse than an unused parked vehicle or two.

It depends. I've seen some very nice concrete parking pads, well landscaped and such, for campers and RVs, vs my run down flat tire broken bed-cap rusted out 85 chevy 1/2 ton that's sunk into my back yard for the past 15 years. (I'm gonna use it for something, someday....).

They don't stop coming out with new features on those RVs so you never have the "best". How about cloaking technology? Oh, wait, then how can the neighbors see it?

I have enough junk, but if it's garbage or scrap, it's out of here! I saw a youtube last night of an old school converted to thrift store. The owner died. You have to see it to believe it. I don't know how or what one would ever do with all that (consumer) stuff. The time, energy and cost to dispose of it must be WAY more than any of the stuff is worth.

I find that too. Eventually I found that keeping everything isn't worth the cost of the few things you do end up using. I can't even bother to look for stuff anymore, because most times it turns out to be not right and I've just ripped apart a bunch of stuff in storage to find it, AND don't put it back, because I am in a hurry!

That seems to be a lot of over-reach in that law.

Seems a little extreme for that area. But then, certain areas of the country have even stiffer ordinances.

The neighborhood I used to live in, in Winter park Fl, was nuts. It had a volunteer Home Owners Association, as well as being in two separate counties. The volunteer HOA could only enforce county ordinances since it wasn't a deed restricted community. Where the confusion came into play was each county had different ordinances :p

Orange county was bump your head ridiculous. Couldn't work on anything in your driveway unless it was just topping up fluids. Can't block the sidewalk even in our driveway. You could get a nasty gram with stiff fine if something was blocking that invisible line for the sidewalk.

Nothing parked on the lawn, no unregistered vehicles in veiw. Motor homes and campers have to be parked behind an 8ft fence to block unsightly views. You can't have an 8ft fence on your property. Max fence height allowed is 6` :banghead: No tandom axle vehicles. No vehicles over 6,000lbs (This one isn't enforced to an extent, too many old ladies and suburbanites driving hummers, but commercial trucks are a no no. Trailers, boats, ect.... have to be hidden behind a fence unless your loading up to head out somewhere. Plus many many more fun things from lawn height, maintenance, paint color, ect....

Seminole county was pretty lax. Most community's have regulations for lawn height. Keeps the skeeters, and snakes to a minimum. As long as someone has a path through your driveway for the sidewalk your fine. Can park on the lawn. Can wrench on something in the driveway. Can have a commercial vehicle parked in the yard as long as it's a single axle (service truck, flat bed) f550 or smaller. Boats and trailers can be in the front yard. They did have the same ordinances when it came to campers and Rv's.

I lived on the Seminole county side. Drove an F550 service truck, and roommate had a boat. I got pretty good at politely telling someone from the orange county side of the neighborhood to p@@s off :cool2:

It's always nicest when a neighborhood is comprised of people with similar values and laws aren't required.

I think there are places where you even have to keep your garage door closed. God forbid, someone should see your dirty old tools!

One of my favorite parts of summer is working on our eqpt with the doors open and radio on.... Cant image having to have the doors closed.

Aside from a landlord issue, why is it a nuisance?

It is really about compliance... submitting to the powers that be.

Nothing new here... the Fire Inspectors and Housing Inspectors will roam all over private property short of entering a dwelling unless they warrant.

Part of it could be the California Car Culture is all but a memory... Cars are Bad and lanes in roads are being converted to bike lanes that NO ONE every uses... parking is diminishing... etc.

In reality, MOST old parked cars and trucks will never run again and will not be used for parts. So, why not just get rid of them sooner rather than later? If they were really worth anything (beyond scrap) they probably would have been sold.

I've restored many cars and quite a few Basket Cases... mostly old Fords.

The only vehicles in view are licensed and insured...

I have 50 assorted vehicles including trailers...

Sold a few over the years because I didn't have proper storage... GTO Convertible, 68 Mint Z-28, 71 4spd Mustang Convertible, assorted Model A's... etc... some are now worth many times what I sold them for... but not having indoor safe storage meant leaving them exposed to the environment.

The goal since a teen was to have a representative collection of American Automotive History... with multiple representatives from each decade starting at 1900... all well presented in an organized central location.

Some of the most interesting exhibits are before and after...

A few of my cars are parts cars because I own pristine examples of vehicles where parts are hard to get...

Its ironic but my Bulldozer and Deere 110 TLB with PJ trailer have the been the most problematic... There is a flat out prohibition on business use... and I can honestly answer all my equipment is Hobby related... ;-)

Couldn't you just close the curtains? ;)
