Yes. This works just fine, but in heavy continuous load it will get warm/hot. Knowing what the temp is is good. Running the correct engine oil is key also. My 155d calls for sae30. And depending on the service history, I'd change all fluids and filters. These are great little tractors.

Good to know! And yes, a fluid and filter tuneup is at the top of the list at the moment. Hydraulics all operate fine so I'm not sure I will completely flush that system. But engine oil change + filter, fuel filter, and hydraulic filter for sure.

Is installing a temp gauge on one of these pretty straight forward?

If anybody ever sees one of those little Yanmar 3-point backhoes closer to me - I'm definitely looking for one. I've never seen one advertised for sale anywhere.

Just a bit of info on the loader and backhoe. The gentleman I bought the unit from told me both attachment pieces came off Kubota tractors (2 separate transactions to get the pieces). He told me the backhoe attachment was used in a cemetery. Of course I cannot verify this, just passing along. The backhoe is powered by a self contained PTO hydraulic pump, and the loader works off of the tractor hydraulics.

I worked on the tractor for a little bit tonight and discovered many of the grease zerks have been neglected worse than I had hoped. I will have to do add those to the to-be-repaired ASAP list.

Also, any tips for cold weather starting this unit? It does not have glow plugs. But it does have a decompression release.

These had an optional ThermoStart, a plug similar to a spark plug screwed into the intake manifold. The inner end of the TS is similar to a car cigarette lighter. Twist the key left to power the TS and it heats the manifold. The TS is also fed a little dribble of diesel from a tiny reservoir. Look and see if you have these components.

If the prior owner didn't need TS in your climate then don't worry about it.

Starting: Half throttle or more. (The manual says full throttle).

Pull (twist?) the compression release lever, get the engine spinning with the starter, then let go of the lever and let the inertia of the flywheel assist the starter motor.

Grab the throttle and reduce it before the engine races. Manual says 5 minute warmup at 1500 rpm but nobody bothers, just don't run it hard before its fully warm.

Thanks for the info on the ThermoStart. I'm not familiar with this, but I do think I saw a tiny plastic reservoir on the top of the engine. I will have to check into it.

That has never worked for me. Have always had to push the decomp lever back in, and requires 3 hands.:thumbdown:

Took some more pics this evening as I was tinkering with the Yanmar. It does appear to have ThermoStart. I have not verified whether or not it works.

Normde2001--- Has always worked fine for me. Have you checked your springs that connect to the decompression assembly above the valve cover? Maybe they are broken or need lubed. They are responsible for returning the decompression lever to its natural position.
