My subframe had guide wedges. You probably had +- 3/4 inch. Backing with that tolerance is pretty easy.

No guides on my subframe. What guides there are are part of the hoe body and I beginning to think modiflying or cutting a couple of them off may actually help. The guides for the upper pin holes are the problem. The opening points straight ahead instead of ahead and down as you'd think it would for something rotating into place. Instead of guiding it home, the guides as they are hit and push the hoe back off the pins. These guides should be rotated down a few degrees say 20-30. Then they'd help not hinder the situation.

I would agree with Spyder chamfering sharp edges makes things go a lot smoother for me. And also cuts down on the amount of time my neighbors have to keep their kids indoors so they don't hear the screaming profanity.

I have the 2538 and regularly take the bh on and off. the platform your feet rest on while using the bh must be angled away from the tractor when putting it on. Make sure the buck/arm are not making contact with the ground while you lower the outriggers to raise the solid pins of the bh just above the hooks on the tractor. then raise the outriggers which lowers those solid pins on the bh into the mount hooks on the tractor. Simply lower the arm/bucket to the ground and then some... raising the top two mount holes on the bh to make contact and then finally align with the tractor mount guides/holes. If your dolly is too high the geometry will be off and you will never win.

In general this backhoe has been the hoe from h e l l. From the slip-shod half-assed install the distributor did, this hoe has been the source for every bit of trouble I've had with this otherwise okay machine. Let me be very clear the distributor not my dealer installed this hoe. To his credit, my dealer took the machine back and corrected the distributers slip-shod install. However the dealer and distributor are different arms of the same company or at least same ownership. The machine has been okay but the documentation and facorty support really do suck bigley.

Yeah I think it may be too high although the hoe came right off and onto the dolly no problem. One would think the geometry would be wrong going on or coming off.

I laugh because I can empathize. Last Fall I got a new JD3038 with lots of attachments, one a DH75 backhoe (I think I have #s right). First time took an hour, then 45min., then faster each time. I had to install it recently and it took 10 min. or less.
I backed tractor slowly and squarely up to it, slow idle in neutral. Hook up hoses and as others said raised stabilizers a little, then I just rolled tractor by hand turning back tire, lift stabilizers a little went right in places. Installed bolts, tighten,pins, lift bucket it's ready to go.
It wasn't on level either. Easy, it takes practice. One day take it off, move tractor, then back on...you'll get the hang of it.
Key is getting tractor straight and evenly back in position.

It's not the edges it's the entire guide getting in the way.

No just the guides are giving me fits. If they weren't in the way I'd have had the hoe on in five minutes. I can position the hoe very accuately left to right and forward and backward using the dolly. I layed some 3/4 plywood down so the casters roll easily.

Do you have a tractor or a fancied lawn mower? You ain't moving my tractor by hand, especially off pavement or the hoe either unless it's on the dolly.

With the hoe in what position. It varies ya know. To answer your question I can get the pins over the hooks but when I rotate the hoe to seat the pins in the hooks the guides on the upper pin mouths push the hoe back off the hooks so they can't engage.
