Small tractors doing big work.

I'm always jealous of your winch Gordon. Yeah, I will use my j5 I recently bought of wood at the moment but I still want one of those winch's. Its funny how your mind thinks of Hp. When talking about trucks, if someone said 30 hp you would think its the size of a lawnmower. But 30 hp tractor has some pull to it. One thing about a 30 hp tractor with that winch is if you take the time to make a decent trail......its narrow and small, and more nimble..yet the winch allows you to pull so much. It makes a small tractor move some wood.

I was thinking of a little smaller tractor but I figured I post this again. I suppose its not that big, 28 hp. Clearing the land off for my garage I'm currently building. I'll probably post more pictures soon if this garage ever gets put up.

I grew up with a Gibson garden tractor, that little tractor did an amazing amount of work on my folks place. It plowed the garden every year, built and maintained roads and driveways, was used for earthwork while mom built her rhoadendern gardens and pulled logs out of the forest for firewood.
My sister and her husband have done an amazing amount of work over the years with their little JD 850.

is this a Gibson Mapper? I bet that would be interesting to see work. You know, its built with some metal for sure. I bet if you could of now had it, rigged alittle hydraulic pump on it and installed a 3pt. You could use it for double what you did when you had it. I'd love to find an old one like that. What year?

I sold my tractor and am in the process of buying a JD310. Doing big work with a little machine sucks. Once you get in the seat of an industrial machine it’s hard to go back.

You have one of those L275? I had to look it up as I'm not familiar with the models. That's similar to those little 7100's etc. What do you use it for? But you have the L3301 also?

Oh, I just looked again, its in the high 20's in HP?

Many of us need to make do with what we can afford. I certainly do not need a large tractor to maintain my 20 acre little slice of heaven. 250 yard driveway, 100 yard shooting range, putting up firewood, and a couple of feed plots.

Living in the country, there are enough people with big machines that I can call on for really big jobs that happen once a year...if that. And being retired I have more time than money. When only doing 50 hours a year on the tractor it is actually fun to work with one.

Not all of us make a living sitting on one.
