That's funny. I have a friend who drives his vehicles with the A/C on in hot weather, but insists on keeping the system on recirculate all the time. Even after the air has gone stale inside from occupants breathing.
There was an interesting article in Motor Trend recently that discussed air quality inside vehicles today. Tests have shown that modern vehicles, which are sealed quite well, can have high CO2 levels inside in as little as 25 minutes with one occupant. That is with the air controls on recirculate. For 2 occupants, it is half that time. High CO2 causes drowsiness and higher risks of a crash. Some new vehicles will have CO2 monitors as a result.
Ya can't trust those vehicle owners with control of their HVAC systems!
I always liked the Tshirt "Go Lemmings, GO"......
I used to work near the main Toronto airport. Stayed later at the office, clearing stuff up one night, instead of sitting in traffic. Left late, the main highway was virtually deserted - crappy, stormy, late-Fall cold and rainy evening. I passed (2 lanes over) a very slow moving, very late model high-end BMW (7 or 8 series) - the car windows looked like a humid greenhouse, with all the moisture running down the INSIDE of the windows.
Cold damp weather up here (and throughout Winter), some people use ReCirc when they definitely shouldn't.
Though.... to be fair to the Bimmer driver, they might have known
exactly what they
wanted to do, but had not yet taken the 3 week course needed to run the iDrive interface
(Sorry about drift OP..... but it connects in my mind in terms of needless complexity causing collateral problems....).
I rarely drive anything with the windows completely shut. But, I don't drive the SouthWest.....
