Dont know why we are arguing now about dump trucks.
Dont know much about them.....But when I call up the trucking place to get some gravel hauled.....his "big" trucks have 3 drop axles.....those he brings me ~25t loads on.
His smaller truck only has 1 drop axle.....21tons at a time on that.
Trucks with no drop (3-axle).....18t.
The notion that a fullsized 3-axle dump truck running around at max load with 10t.....laughable.
I am glad you trust him, with those weight claims on those axles I sure wouldn't.

I would question the tare weight of the above listing. Probably without fuel, tow chain, triangles or anything else. If your gravel company claims to be bringing you 21 tons on 4 axles, it might be time to look for an honest provider. The following quote is from superdumps.com selling super-solo dump trucks.
"Notice: The Federal Bridge Law (FBL) and Federal Bridge Formula (FBF) apply to all interstate and federal highways across the nation, and many states have adopted them state-wide. We'll often refer to these federal regulations as simply "FBL" or "FBF". Expand the Federal Bridge Law panel above for detailed information on the federal regulations.
Ohio Vehicle Weight Limits
Quick Summary / Synopsis for Dump Trucks
Ohio has adopted the FBF state-wide."
Washington adopted the FBF also. Drove dump truck for 14 years so I have a little experience on the subject of dump truck can legally haul. A 4 axle truck can gross about 55,500, give or take a thousand depending on length overall. The tare weight is going to be about 24,000 to 27,000 depending on frame strength, aluminum vs steel box, etc. Do the math and see if you can make 42,000 pounds (21 tons) fit on a four axle truck. There are lots of ways to bump scale weight if the company is dishonest; His scale can be tared wrong either unintentionally or intentionally, his loader operator can put his bucket in the box while the truck is on the scale, scale ticket may be hand written with false info, etc. Since the person receiving a load of gravel has no way of verifying the weight, a dishonest operator can say his load weighs whatever he wants.
