I know I would. Is Canon going to come out with similar mirrorless and will the lenses be compatible? I need to read up on the technology. I am falling behind.

The short answer is yes, Canon has been slow to the party, they may be waiting to see what Nikon is going to offer, how it stacks up against Sony, and then see if they have go back to engineering or announce their pro mirrorless camera. This is Nikon’s first new mount since 1958, it’s a big deal. People are wondering because it so big they may have designed it to fit both full frame and an medium format. With Fugifilm getting ready to announce their gfx 50r, a medium formate rangefinder type mirrorless body similar in size weight and price and that is the future not full frame they would be ready to compete. The smaller medium format mirrorless camera (same or small lighter then current DSLR), might just leapfrog full frame... with new mounts your old glass will need adapters. Why would you invest in whole new Nikon system of full frame mirrorless glass, when you could move to medium format, same size weight, with a way bigger sensor, that is already at 100mp, with Fugifilm.

I think you壇 be shocked what a 24mp picture 6000x4000 looks like on a 5k monitor.

A conventional TV or computer screen only has, at most, about 1 MB in pixels. I've been doing a newsletter for 14 years. Can usually reduce a 2 to 12 or more MB picture down to about 100 kB, and it looks the same on the computer screen and actually not too bad if projected onto a wall.

4K TV is 3840x2160 That’s over 8million. Many 3” displays and optical viewfinders exceed 4 million. Apple 5k 27” display is 5120x2880 or over 15 million.

I admit, I am a pixel guy and rode the wave of Canon bodies up to 40D. Now have a 4k 65in TV and that thing is incredible! It upscales pretty dang good too. Did some reading tonight on the mirrorless and I like the technology but they need to allow same EF and L lens use or I will never go there. Getting old.

You can do that with the A7 today via metabones adapter. Problem is it's really, really bulky. Upside is you can use all your EF lenses.

Looked into it back before I got my 6D but just wasn't quite there yet. It's really a shame because Canon has a really great lens line-up.

Yeah, I just can't see turning over my nice lenses at this point in my life. Photography was my dream career but engineering got in the way (thank goodness). But it has been a serious hobby since the early 70s. Still have old processing chemicals and an enlarger and a few other relics from film printing.

Looks like Nikon Z announcement and camera was a faceplant. One card slot, and 15 minutes of video on one full battery charge.

Yeah, Canon has some pretty unique glass with the TS-E, 35L and a few other gems. Really most people got for the latest and greatest camera bodies but lenses is where you should be making your investment.

We used to have a bunch of people at work who shot Canon and happily lent lenses all around. Can't tell you the number of people I converted to prime lenses after lending out something as simple as the 50/1.8.

Sounds like a great argument as we moved from film to digital. Problem is the digital camera sensor has reached 35mm, same size as a film camera. To get better images you need bigger sensors, which means bigger mounts. A good thing is lens with bigger mounts are far superior to smaller lens. So if you are set at staying at 35mm or full frame to keep you glass your being left behind.
