I didn't see an existing thread for discussing atlantic, gulf and pacific storms so I figured I would start one.

Right now it looks like Florence, is currently category 4, and is PREDICTED to hit the carolina's coast.. however, if it goes more west than northwest, I believe that the north florida and / or georgia coast could also be a target.

There are 2 more storms out there, but with 'open water' prediction models so far. ( Remember that florence was predicted to be an open water only storm as well... )

Hope all those in harms way are prepared and stay safe...But...
The storm (Florence) will get the typical news coverage with the typical clowns standing out in the wind and sideways rain with their hand held anemometers babbling on about the storm...
...However should it (the storm) move toward the NYC area etc (regardless of how diminished in intensity) it will become a much more important news issue and get much more coverage...:D

I pray everyone is okay in the path and it's affects. Around here gas is selling fast and there aren't any cases of water, bread or milk to be found anywhere.

My daughter's college shut down at 615 last night and sent the students home with our governor's evacuation order. 2nd year in a row. I'm happy to see her for a short break!

For once the forecasters are right.
The direct hit and the low country will be devastating!
Flooding is going to happen.
To quote Fred Sanford- "This is the big one Elizabeth" !!

We closed on our beach house just a few lots back from the ocean in Hatteras exactly one month ago. Plan to use it as a vacation rental until retirement time. We knew the risk but it does give you a sinking feeling in the gut. We’ve met and become friends with some wonderful folks down there in a very short period of time. Most are not evacuating. Praying for everyone’s safety.

Yes I too pray that everyone is okay. From the latest forecast it looks like NC, SC & Virginia will bear the brunt of it. It appears it will the coast hard and then stall inland. Some forecasters are predicting 20 to 30 inches of rain.

Our local "Ohio Task Force One" just sent a team to SC yesterday. Their only focus will be water rescues.

Local branch of the Red Cross is packing up several food service trucks to send to the area as well.

Whenever storms hit the East Coast, the military always sends planes from the coastal bases to WPAFB here in the Dayton area. We'll probably end up with a few dozen extra planes parked on the tarmac here.

================

Just listening to the radio right now. Storm is approx 500 miles off the coast right now and winds are 130 MPH. I think that's dropped from a day or so ago when I heard that the winds were 160. (My memory could be incorrect on that though)

I hear that the cajun navy has mobilized and is sending boats north to assist in water rescue as well.

The Air Force and Air National Guard in Hampton VA have started bringing F-22 Raptors and T-38 Talons to Rickenbacker Air Base here in Ohio. Some of them arrived yesterday.

You're getting the cool planes at Rickenbacker!! They're sending the C-17's to Wright-Patt.

Four seasons mall area, Greensboro. Pic doesn't do it justice. About a 200 yard x 200 yard section of parking lot filled with utility trucks. Coming back off I 40 about an hour later, the off ramp for this exit was packed with even more utility trucks getting off...

Stopped for Lunch in Winston...

I've never seen so many utility vehicles on the road BEFORE a storm hit.

This morning, dropped down to a Category 2 from a 4.

I have been watching Flo since last week. The European ensemble has been more accurate than the US GFS ensemble. The European models have been mostly going into SC since last week. The last update I saw has Flo on the south side of the storm cone from NOAA while the GFS ensemble is on the north edge so says the NOAA discussion.

The interior of NC looks like it might have dodged a cannon volley but SC will get it instead.:(:(:(

Fran hit NC back in the late 90's and came into he interior and did massive damage to the forests and trees which took out the power grid. Many areas were without power for weeks. Thankfully, flooding was minimal compared to Floyd.

Then Floyd hit. Floyd was a 500 year event and flooded out much of eastern NC. If I remember correctly, the forecast was for 15 inch of rain, but some areas were 20-24 inches. I went down after the storm to help clean up and you could see debris from the flood dozens of feet up in trees. It was unreal. Houses floated off foundations. Car floated on top of cars. Caskets floated out of graves. It was like a horror movie.

Flo looks like it is going to be Floyd on steroids with Fran added.:thumbdown::thumbdown:

They are forecasting 20-30 inches of rain over a large area of NC with some areas getting 40 inches!:shocked::shocked: Floyd was a major disaster with 20+ inches....

If the forecasts hold, I would guess I95 will get flooded out again. Seems like I95 was just fixed from Mathew. Looks like NC is going to get the water/flooding and SC is gong to get the wind.

We have been prepping since last weekend and still have a few more things to do but we are mostly done. Winds starting to pick up.

Later,
Dan
