Wow, Girl, amazing statistics. I had no idea Pits were so dangerous. I see now why they are banned completely in Toronto (a city a little bit bigger than Chicago).

That's also a big reason why a lot of guns are outlawed in Canada, they're so dangerous and can kill.

Also pits and rotties are the most common breeds owned by scumbags that treat them like crap and want them to be aggressive. One of the best videos I've seen in the last couple years was some scumbag running from the cops who tries to sick his dog on the cops. The dog tackled the owner.

The two we ended up with we did so because we literally couldn't find them good homes (by good homes, meaning supervision, time and environment including other dogs / pets in the house). We weren't that hard, just had some basic requirements and people can get ticked off if you ask for a home visit. People would never lie LOL.

The amount of people that would come up to me and ask me if they (terriers) would make good guard dog was ridiculous. I also couldn't believe how many parents would let their kids come running up to the dogs WITHOUT asking for permission first for the child to approach. Honestly, the dogs were probably more afraid of the people.

I view it as my job to protect my family, and my dogs are a part of that family. My dogs job is not to guard anything of mine, but to alarm me to possible danger, and believe me, if you ever heard them go off when they hear someone coming down the gravel driveway, you can go deaf LOL

Look at how much black on black crime with guns is committed, and how those stats are compiled. If we took all the white and black trash that owned terrier breeds and took them out of the equation per dog stats, I wonder what would happen.

Here is the real sad part - If you commit a crime with a gun, generally your gun rights are taken away (but then people just break the law as I've lost track on how many times I've read in the local paper where a convicted felon was busted for having a firearm on his possession) BUT if you're a dumb butt with dog and the dog does something very bad and is taken away, you just get another dog and redo the whole idiotic process all over again (per training the dog and your expectations of the dog).

Like guns, people should be held responsible for their pets, and if you show that you can handle them, you don't deserve to have them.

One I'm most scared is a standard poodle. Was installing a fence and kept hearing a banging noise coming from the house  Heard glass break and saw a dog coming at us. Dog bit me pretty good on the arm. When I knocked the dog off me it turned and went after my coworker.

Coworker had a pair of fence pliers in his hand. He jumped back and as he did, he smacked the dog on the head when it lunged at him. Dog dropped like a sack of taters dead

Called the police and the home owner, explained to both what happened. Both arrived within minutes of each other. Homeowner swore her precious would never hurt a fly and was pretty irate about her dog being dead, and that we owed her for her dog. Cop handed her a ticket and informed her she was responsible for my doctors bills over the bite as well as the dog since it got loose and attacked us.

The officer then went and inspected the house to see how the dog got loose. Officer found four double pain windows cracked in view of us, and one broken one where the dog got out. Apparently the dog kept ramming windows till one finally broke.

In 1980 I was fresh out of college and working construction that summer. We pulled up to a very nice house in Princeton, NJ that had an 8 ft high solid wood fence around the back yard. As soon as we opened the truck doors and walked towards the fence gate you could see the gate being pounded on by something big behind it like a sledge hammer. The owner came running out, shouting and waving his arms to stop dead and don't move... He was a retired Army Colonel and behind the fence was his units attack dog from Nam. I have never seen a German Shepard that big since then, or that terrifying. It seriously looked more like a shaggy Rottweiler with Shepard ears and was virtually jet black. Anyway, the dog was literally a trained killer and he didn't have the heart to put it down when they left Nam.

Growing up we had two large "American" bred shepherds untrained in my area and all the kids hated them including me, they were always loose and would chase us on our bikes, We had a couple of dobermans that were a pain as well. I never heard of any of them biting anyone but I would have never thought back then I would have a German Shepherd in my backyard right now and two before him.

They are a lot of work with a lot of energy that needs to be spent everyday, I decided to start researching a dog that would protect the inside of my home when I'm not home and when I am. So The German Shepherd Dog seemed to be the perfect fit for me from my research so I started looking at breeders, I can tell you I don't like any of them that I met, they are in it to make money and that's it. I found one that I could research the bloodlines way back in time, I bought a female from a future planned litter, at that point I needed to find someone to train it for my needs and I did and she was a wonderful dog for 16 years then I did the same with a big West German male, another wonderful dog, I did the same process for my now two year old male and he is coming along nicely.

I wish that before someone purchases a dog that is capable of hurting or killing someone would stop and think about the dog instead of themselves, consider the costs of a nice size fenced in area, have the ability, time and money to get the dog trained or at the very least do some basic training for the dog throughout it's life on a daily basis.

Many more times than not I see people that own dogs that have no place for the dog to enjoy, they don't spend time with the dog on a daily basis and it's sad but whenever humans are involved in anything there will be problems.

I agree 100% with Sig concerning firearms and dogs.. Hey if you can't afford three children on welfare you can make two more..

Wow. I hope he kept that fence in good repair at all times.

In a number of the fatalities, the dog(s) broke down doors, fences, and even broke through glass windows to get to their victims. Pits seem to be unusually powerful for their size.

Perhaps we need dog licenses, like gun licenses. People should prove they can be responsible for their pooches. It's a symptom of an increasingly dense society.

Same with children.

I agree with you 100%, for ANY dog.

For kids, we actually had our state license for them as well:laughing: Do think it would be hard to make in mandatory for everyone to be licensed for children though. All you need is to put a ***** and a ****** together, and there you go, kids. No brians, no nothing needed. Just pump em out. Not certain how the state is going to regulate screwing. Could be a Woody Allen flick where you need a license to have sex.

When growing up the neighbor just south of our camp had a chihuahua which was always out and would chase and nip us every time we walked past. Down the road a little farther was a mixed breed that was always out in the road and loved to chase cars and motorcycles. The people just beyond my friend's house had a big GSD that we all were afraid of because it would chase us every time we went past. The town road bisected everybody's lot, so the camps and houses were on one side while the pond was on the other side of the roadway.
One day I was alone, walking on the road past the place with the Shepard when he came out at me. I started to run, and he nipped me just enough to put a hole in the waistline of my jeans and draw a little blood. I never told anybody, and always felt it was my fault right up until the day that I got my own dog some 25 years later; somehow that changed my outlook. I now realize that I should have raised a stink and gotten the owners to control their animal. The dog was being a dog, and by getting scared and running I became prey; the owners were jerks for not taking proper care of their dog. I won't keep a mean animal on the property, whether it's a dog, cat, pig, rooster or whatever.

The technology exists and the day may come when people bank their product and get "the" operation, so that there are virtually no unwanted pregnancies.
